Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Thursday

Good morning!

I lifted last night and did 40 minutes on the elliptical.  My lift felt good, I can definitely feel myself getting stronger.

I'm running outside later and hopefully it goes better than Tuesday's run.  I've been doing better with my diet this week, so I hope to contine that on through the weekend.

How did everyone else do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Thursday

  • Hey Jude! nice work!

I did 4 miles yesterday on a very hilly route. I hate hills! I am trying to figure out my running schedule for the rest of the week- my shower is on Sunday, so I am thinking of switching around my running days so I have Sunday off which might mean I'd take today off, run 4 Friday and 5 Saturday. It is going to be HOT here today so that might make the most sense.

Of course I will also be eating a lot on Sunday so maybe I shouldn't take it off...
  • Morning!

    Nice work Jude!

4 miles of hills KP? Way to go!

I ran for 30 minutes this morning but the stupid treadmill shut off somewhere in the last 10 minutes, so I'm not sure of my exact stats.  It put me in a pretty sour mood this morning.
Tomorrow I'll do weights and maybe some biking, then more running on Saturday.  Haven't decided between weights and cardio for Sunday yet.

<div>Lobsters, this is one of my biggest irritations of all time.  I've only ever accidentally hit the emergency stop button a few times, but it seriously frustrates me when my workout gets interrupted and everything gets erased and I have no idea what my time/distance was. </div>

  • I HATE when I accidentally hit the stop!

Anywho, last night we scrapped the gym plans because I was sweating at work all day because the AC wasn't working... so I felt pretty crappy.  We ended up bringing out dog to the beach for a nice walk and to wade in the cool water.  That was a LOT better than going to the gym ;)
  • Lbarr, it must be so nice to take the dog to the beach!  Our dog hates the water but we're taking her to Cape Cod in May, and hoping she'll at least enjoy frolicking in the sand.

At least I could be mad at myself if I hit the stop, but I didn't!  The treadmill just stopped.  FI said it's happened to him before on that treadmill, too.  I guess that's what I get for using the dinky apartment complex gym.

  • I am really struggling this week!  Yesterday I left for a business trip to Indy.  I hit the gym before I left and lifted & started my run/walk program on the treadmill for 30 minutes.  I researched before I got here and found a spin class to take today at noon.  So I'm not struggling with the exercise part - I've got that handled.

I'm struggling with eating!!!  My business trips usually consist of a lot of cocktail/appetizer receptions and late night dinners.  I can navigate the receptions with a lot of willpower, but when I eat late at night I tend to lose my motivation.  Last night not only did I have an appetizer AND a piece of bread, but I also had creme brulee for dessert and loved every second of eating it.

I'm trying to keep in mind that I'll be back home and disciplined on Saturday, but I am feeling guilt this morning.  I have another 2 days of late dinners that I have to figure out how to get through!!!
  • Something about this heat is making me totally not motivated or excited to work out. I think it's because we didn't have any sort of transitionary period, we went right from winter to summer!

I did manage to go on a walk with my co-workers at break yesterday for 20 minutes, then I still forced myself to go to the gym after work. The only way I made it through my workout was because I picked the equipment that was RIGHT in front of the giant blowing fan. I got 10 minutes on the stairmaster and 25 minutes on the elliptical and then I was DONE.

Going to take today off (mabye take another walk with co-workers but that's it).

  • Ok I am officially jealous of anyone that lives near a beach!! I wish! Great job everyone! I am always so inspired by these threads. This morning I went to spin class. Yesterday was a day off for me. I had plans after work with my family so no time to lift like I usually do on Wednesdays.

Reggies - I am a total sucker for appetizers. Don't feel too bad if you cave. Afterall you are out of town and your options are limited. Stay strong girl! p.s. I would kill for that dessert lol

  • I posted yesterday that I fell off the wagon.  I think Insanity has defeated me.  I wasn't in very good shape when I started, and the first month was hard, but it still felt good in that really tough workout accomplished feeling.  Now the second month is just HARD and feels crappy.  I dread the workouts and I'm skipping them because of it.

So, plan B starts now.  We have a race in June and one in July.  I'm going to start a running and cross training schedule that incorporates an Insanity video 1-2 days a week.  AFTER my races (and I'm presumably in better shape), I WILL give it another go.  I'm kind of ashamed of myself--but I know I can't keep trying to slog through or I'll be miserable and skip workouts and won't be ready for our runs.

  • Keep your head up J!  Maybe a switch in routine is exactly what you need to get back at it :)
  • Thanks lady :)  I know it's a silly thing to get down on myself about, but I'm super competitive and I really wanted to be able to do this right now.  I know it was silly since I had had almost 4 months off from working out COMPLETELY because of my asthma and some other things, but I thought maybe I could do it.  Totally unreasonable, and I'm humbled, but determined to get there soon.

  • I also might re-do the schedule the second time around to make a 5 day a week thing instead of 6.  6 days of super intense workouts are just too much.

  • I'm crazy competitive to so I understand how frustrating it can be.  It sounds like you have a good plan for when you try it again.  I have to say, for you to have not been working out and jumping into Insanity and lasting as long as you did is VERY impressive.  I agree with the 5 day a week thing.  6 days is crazy I'd die with only 1 complete rest day if I was doing something that intense.
  • I had an awesome time at the gym last night!  I did 35 minutes of elliptical and 15 minutes of lifting for upper body.  My scale was also kind to me yesterday morning and said I was down 2.4 pounds!!  During work yesterday and this morning, I had to do a ton of stairs so that was an extra burn!  And I had so many calories left last night that I got to have a bit of ice cream!

  • Hi ladies. I went to the gym for the first time yesterday in over a month. I ran for half hour on the treadmill and did an ab workout. Today I made plans to run with my sister in law in the park.
