Reception Toasts

Anyone having speeches at their reception other than MOH and BM? My mom and dad said they'd like to say a few quick words welcoming FI to family at the wedding. I think this is a sweet idea and am planning to mention it to FI's sister and dad in case they want to say something as well (but I don't want them to feel obligated.) My parents also asked if FI and I were planning to say a few words. I hadn't planned on that but now I wonder if I should. Are you planning to make a speech at your wedding?

We are not making a speech at the wedding. Traditionally (at least in the cases of weddings I've been to/in), MOST speeches other than the MOH and best man are given at the rehearsal dinner, so thats when FI and I will give our words!

I think it is nice for the parents of the bride to say something at the reception. Iit is a very touching moment. They should probably go just before the MOH and BM. But I do think that most speeches are typically done at the rehearsal dinner.

FI and I plan on saying something at the rehearsal dinner to thank our families and close friends, etc. FI's family wanted to say a few things as well. I am going to try and keep the speeches at the reception to a minimum, because I know most people will just want to eat, drink, and dance.

I offered it to my Dad, I would really love it if he does a speech. My Mom will be saying a secular grace instead of having the priest do a blessing. Our BM & MOH will be doing speeches also. I think later in the night FI and I will do a quick speech thanking everyone for coming.

BM and MOH will say something... FI said he may say a simple thank you for sharing our special day... but that's it... lol

My dad and his dad will both be saying some words (his did will likely say far more than mine will; I've told both they need to keep it short, but his dad rambled on for nearly 10 minutes at his brother's wedding). We will also probably thank everyone for coming before the prayer before dinner. MOH and BM will make their toasts as well.

My dad and step-dad will be giving welcome speeches, and there will be the traditional toasts from the BM and MOH. My FI and I are going to do a quick welcome speech between the cocktail hour and dinner to thank everyone for coming. We need to get to work on that!

I've asked my dad to say a welcoming prayer before dinner and we will probably say a quick thank you. I'm not sure if we will have the MOH and BM do their speeches at the rehearsal dinner or at the reception.

I'm planning a simple thank you speech, and my MOH insists on giving a speech, but I'm so antispeech that it'll probably take 5 minutes for both!

I just found out my Dad was going to say something at the Rehearsal dinner. FI's dad is doing a toast at reception and best man also. Not sure about MOH, but I think we (meaning I) will say a thank you to the guests.

We'll say our thank yous at the rehearsal.

MOH and BM will each give a short one at the reception. We're limiting it to just that.

We are not planning on saying anything since my parents are technically 'hosting' the event. My father will say a few words, but we don't have a wedding party so his will be the only one.

i hadn't really thought about it, but i'm going to ask the MOH and BM to make speeches as well as our parents. We are making one as well. We aren't doing a rehersal dinner so we will say all our thank yous at the wedding.

After reading that the hosts should say a quick thank you to the guests for attending I told FI that he should say something brief since we are hosting. Then we'll have the BM and MOH say something.

Maybe I'll ask FI say thank you at the rehearsal dinner too. Or maybe I will get up the guts to say a few words then since it's a smaller group.

We are doing a little more than all of you.... we have our toast to the bride/groom (my aunt, his brother or BM hasn't decided which yet), welcome to the family (my brother, his sister), thank you from each of our sets of parents, and then a big thank you from us. We aren't doing any of the speeches at the rehearsal dinner cause it will be VERY informal - more of a thank you dinner to our bridal party.

I think we'll only do the MOH and BM. I think anything more than that and guests will start to get bored because of too many speeches.

We will not be doing a speech at the wedding. We are going to thank our bridal party and family at the rehearsal dinner with a small speech then. The last wedding I went to, the father of the bride did a speech and it was so touching. If you are going to have a lot of speeches, just make sure the speakers keep it to a minimum so they aren't boring the guests.
