Hawaii Hotels

Hi,

My fiance and I are going to Hawaii for our honeymoon in October/November, and need advice as to what hotels to stay in.  We are going to the islands of Oahu, Maui and most likely Kaui (We may visit The Big Island for a day.)  In general, we want something romantic, more adult-friendly and fun.  We don't need the most extravagnt places; I would say hotels up tp $400 a night, maybe with an ocean view.  Thanks for any advice!

Re: Hawaii Hotels

  • The Fairmont in Maui and Grand Hyatt in Kauai were both amazing!
  • The Fairmont and the Grand Hyatt are actually the exact hotels we're looking at. A lot of reviews at the Grand Hyatt said they were disappointed with the beach - what did you think? What were the pros and cons of each hotel? Thanks so much!
  • How long are you going?  3 islands is a lot unless you are going for 2 weeks or more, and doing day trips to another island is not as easy as it sounds.  Just something to consider.

  • Even if the Grand Hyatt had the crappiest beach on the island, it would still be totally worth it!!!  While we were there, we didn't even go to the beach. In Hawaii, I feel like you read about all of these special beaches and make separate trips to them, so to me, it didn't matter if the resort was on a good beach or not. Plus, I'm not really a sand girl -- the pools, restaurants, room, etc were AWESOME!!!!  Totally worth the splurge!
  • We are going for 2 weeks. Here's what we were thinking so far for the itinerary: Oahu (about 3.5 days) Maui (6.5) and then Kaui (3.5 days.) If we decided to do the Big Island for a day we would take a day from Maui. The 0.5 is to account for travel...I have actually been to Oahu before and wasn't impressed, but my fiance wants to see it...For hotels, Maui is where we figured we would spend the most money...We have Mariott Reward points that we may end up using.  Has anyone stayed in one of the Marriotts on these islands?

  • Those times on each island sound okay, but I still wouldn't recommend doing a day trip.  The first time we went to Hawaii, we went to Oahu and Maui, and between checking out of the hotel, going to the airport, checking bags, going through security, flying, waiting for our bags, getting the rental car, driving to the new hotel, checking in, etc...wasted a significant portion of the day.  Also, the interisland flights book up pretty far in advance, so sometimes the flights you get aren't very convenient and you may need to be checked out of your hotel by 10am, but not have a flight until 2pm, which doesn't give you time to do anything significant, so you just wonder around trying to fill your time, and it feels wasted.

  • We just booked our honeymoon for the Grand Hyatt in Kauai and The Fairmont in Maui! So excited, 5 nights in each place. Any recommendations of things to try/see/eat  while we are there? (just a note, I don't eat any seafood but my fiance does)
