inexpensive reception hall?

My fiance and I are on a tight budget and we're looking for a reception hall that is inexpensive, allows us to choose our own catering (or do food ourselves) and is preferably in the south hills. We've found one but my fiance doesn't really like it. I told him we can't really be too picky on our budget and we could decorate it nicely but we still want to explore any other options out there. Any suggestions on places? Google hasn't helped me too much!

What is inexpensive? We are getting married in the South Hills and our reception is at Holy Cross, which is across the street from the Galleria. While I think it is inexpensive, you may not. Everyone's definition is different. I can't choose my own caterer, but i do have a choice of 3 different ones. You could also look into the fire halls or there is another hall in Beechview, but I can't remember the name of it.

We're looking all over the south hills. preferably castle shannon, bethel park, south park area but anywhere in the south hills. The one we looked at was in south park, which I think could work for us, but he wants me to see if I can find anywhere else...otherwise, we will go with that one, but he may not be the happiest with it.

I'll look into the holy cross facility. Thanks

Have you looked at the Library Fire Hall? I don't know much about it , but a friend of mine just booked it for her wedding.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into them. I've looked into a couple fire halls, but not the library one. And my friend is having hers at Salvatore's.

I looked into the Holy Cross Banquet Hall, and it doesn't seem too bad. It looks nice from what pictures I saw of it.

Try the Wendel Inn. They don't let you choose a caterer, but I don't believe it is too expensive.

I had my wedding at St. Thomas More Family Life Center in the South Hills.

I would also try:

Library or Broughton Fire Hall
Holy Cross (like Barbie said)
The Georgetown Center
The Bradley House
Garden Room (catered by Chaz Anthony who also caterers Wendall Inn)

Like others have said, i don't think you can bring your own catering to most of those (the fire halls I'm not sure) but they at least give you a choice of caterers.

Lisa, I didn't think the Bradley House was still there. Am I wrong? Also, the one I couldn't remember was the ballroom at St. Pamphilus.

Bradley House was closed last I knew...

There is also the South Baldwin Social Hall right off of Curry Hollow.

... do you know your budget & guest count? This will help figure out what places would be within your budget.

I had my reception at the Ballroom at St. Pamphilus (clicky link!) and loved it! It was very reasonably priced, and it was BYOB, which saved us a LOT of money. You cannot choose your own catering, but I was more than pleased with Ches Anthony's food.
