Anything you've done during the planning that you didn't think you'd do?

Yesterday, I was struggling with myself about whether or not to buy these cobalt blue water goblets (link)...because I thought they would be perfect for my tables...see my inspiration pic (link). Though they're super cheap at $1/piece, I still couldn't justify spending $150 for them. Fiance eventually talked me out of it, but I was bummed. Didn't think I'd care about decor as much as I did yesterday...maybe it's because i'm at this stage of planning when i've got most of the big stuff done, so my brain is trying to keep itself preoccupied with details I used to not care about. The bright side is, that money can go towards our excursions for our cruise honeymoon!

Is there anything you've done during the planning that surprised even yourself?

Oh I'm totally into the small details.  I am really into the decorations/centerpieces right now.  I really didn't think I would be into this and other details, but I am!  I never thought I would care about uplighting (which we wouldn't have done if it wasn't for free from our dj friend), or every pay this much for the meal (but I must admit, the food is amazing!)  It's our one day, so I find myself giving in a little bit!  :)

btw, I think the goblets are really cute, but not necessary unless you are having to rent the china anyway!

i had a conversation about a shade of yellow... i'm not really that kind of person, yellow is yellow. blue is blue... but aparently in this stage i know the difference between canary and marigold plus chocolate and expresso. lol

  • I didn't think that I would have gotten an actual venue for everything.  The plan was to go to the beach, get married and go back to my parents house for a catered dinner.  We are now getting married at a Hilton on the beach and having a small reception there.  I am really happy we decided to go this route.  :)

Lots of things! The one thing that comes to mind is I kept SWEARING to myself that I was not going to do something so stupid as go and round all of the corners on my paper materials. ...And I'm rounding the corners on all my paper goods, ha. My corner rounder from PaperSource is my new BFF.

  • Yup, I've started to get pretty anal about details as well.

And Reyes, for $150 I totally would have bought those glasses.

  • I thought I would have done all of my DIY stuff by now but I am surprised that I am lacking the motivation to actually do it.  I am just ready for this wedding to be here and over with.

Reyes, I would have bought the glasses too.  They would make such a statement if you are doing lighter tableclothes like in your inspiration pic.

Yup, and lets face it. When it comes to wedding, $150 is not a lot of money for that kind of impact.

I don't know...I didn't think I would ever care or know so much about my flowers!

I'm convinced there's a thing called 'bridal brain' that skews what most people won't notice into huge catastrophes!

  • achiduck and ystaalenburg...really?? now you're making me think twice...haha
I AM doing champagne pintuck table cloths, and i'm having blue uplighting
my venue is providing traditional glassware so that's why my FI talked me out of buying those...plus we'd have to travel with them (my wedding is a 4-hr drive away)

i was looking into cobalt blue vases for centerpieces and bright royal blue favor boxes instead?

  • I can related to all of that! My biggest hurdle so far, as you may know, was picking out invitations. I know they end up in the trash, but I still cared much more about them than I thought I would.

All of the little details are making me crazy! I give a lot of credit to Wedding Paper DIvas for helping me customize the invitations though. They have really great customer service.

Yup, really. The way I see it, the glasses will come in packaging already so you don't need to worry about re-packing them later. You'd just need to take a look to make sure that none arrived broken and that they are up the quality you were expecting.

  • I never thought I would care about the decor as much... especially flowers. I kept saying how flowers weren't important and I didn't really need them other than bouquets. Then I went to a Bridal Show and I saw how beautiful everything was. I turned to FI and said, " I care about flowers now."

<div>Totally agree with achiducks's response.  Another thing to remember is that you can sell them after the wedding and probably for the same price.  I would have never guessed you could get those glasses from the dollar tree.</div><div>
</div><div>If your vase is going to be on the larger side, then maybe that will make enough of a statement and the drinking glasses won't be missed.  But if you are going to do a shorter square vase like the one I saw on your pinterest board, then I would still recommend getting the drinking glasses.</div>

I agree that you wouldn't have to worry about transporting them, but unless you get to set up the night before, I wouldn't want to deal with it.  Maybe it's just me, but I would want to wash every glass after it's been packaged, and that isn't something I would want to do the morning of, or make a family member a glorified dishwasher.  I still like them a lot, but unless you've got time, I would still make a statement with something that can be completed well ahead of time like  big blue vases, etc.

I've found that I really don't care all that much what my wedding is like in terms of decor and hair and stuff.  I had so many ideas for what I wanted but when it came down to atually planning I realized none of that was going to make my wedding better.

Our wedding is just really simple and very US!  Feel free to see my Pinterest boards;)

  • achiduck, I saw them in person and thought they were pretty good quality for $1/piece...

iwoehlk, good idea about washing them first! I would have time...i hired a planner that will help me from a month out...

ystaalenberg, I COULD resell them after the wedding...

christinavy, i wanted a simple wedding too...i knew i wanted good photography, good food, and good entertainment...I never would've thought I'd go crazy over blue glasses...

i think i'm even more torn now than I was yesterday Undecided
