I'm a Christian but I don't need to have a Church wedding

I've always wanted to get married outside. It's where I'm happiest and where I feel most filled with the joy of God's creation. My mothe has said that she won't come to the wedding if it's not in a church. I'm heartbroken. She's saying the wedding won't be blessed if it's not in a church. I'm not Catholic and nowhere in the Bible does it say I have to have a Church wedding. I'm very close to my parents and feel so disheartened that she would even think of threatening not to come over this. I don't know what to do. God is everywhere so why should it matter?

    It's your wedding, not your moms and she's going to have to come to terms with that.  FWIW:  tell her that I'm a church organist/choir director and my DD was married in a beautiful outdoor wedding last summer.  I wouldn't have changed anything about it.

    DD and SIL had our recently retired minister as their officiant, so they had a Christian ceremony with a stunning mountain backdrop behind them.

    Frankly, I'd call your mom's bluff.  "Mom,  having our wedding outdoors is important to Mr. Wooden and me.  We want you with us on our wedding day, but if you feel you can't attend, we'll be disappointed, and you'll certainly be missed."

    If you're old enough to get married, you're old enough to stand up to your mom.

    Ditto PPs about calling her bluff. Dollars to donuts says she sulks for a while, then sucks it up and attends once she realizes that you won't let her push you around.

    Another tactic ... "Sorry, Mom, but I would rather not pay lip service to a church/religion I don't believe in, and make religious vows that I don't intend to fulfill, just to have a church wedding. I would rather not disrespect God and Catholocism (or whatever your mother is) like that."

    Tell your mom: A "church" is a group of people joined by faith. A building is a building.
