AW: Meet my New Misfit

It's slow, so I'm showing off my new cat. We got her a week ago, and she's  already bossing the dogs around. Her name was "Lovey" but that will be changing. She's full grown at a whopping 4.5lbs.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Adorable... so will "Lovey" change to "Bossy"?
  • Aww!  Lots of cuteness this morning--babies, weddings, cats...

She's so cute!  I'm going to AW a pic of my Cheddar in his new favorite place - the flower pot on the deck.  I'm hoping he finds a new spot once I plant my flowers.

  • Too cute Les!
This took so long to post, that I didn't see the wedding or the baby. Baby definitely trumps kitty. haha

  • So cute!  I love her markings!

Oh, she's so cute! What name ideas have you come up with? I  may have missed this, so I apologize, but what's wrong with kitty's eye?

Thanks, jasmine.  Babies, kitties - it's all good.  So happy for AC's healthy baby boy, and your new baby too.

  • We can't decide on a name yet. I wanted Ophelia or Prynne, because I'm a nerd. He likes Riley, and that will probably win out.

Her eye was removed when she came into rescue. She had a severe upper respiratory infection and a myriad of other issues. The eye is sewn shut now, but it doesn't slow her down. Someone also carved an "X" into her nose that will likely never go away.

  • I like Ophelia and Riley (that's my niece's name), good luck deciding!

That's so sad about her eye and her nose, but at least she's got someone to love on her now!

    She's a cutie!

My best friend's mom got 2 kittens a few months ago. One is Riley (fluffy orange) and the other is Scooter.

It really upsets me that some people are so awful to animals. It makes my blood boil. She's a lucky girl to have a good home now!

    That makes me soooo angry. I'm glad she's with you and happy though <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

    Is she skiddish at all?

  • Surprisingly, she loves people. She ended up on the doorstep of a foster family, half dead. She picked her up, and she just started purring. Hence "Lovey."

Whatever her past, she is not at all scared. She's tough as nails, and won't run from our big dogs. I think her growth is stunted though. She is a year old, and is kitten sized.

I've never had a cat before, and she is so much fun. I'm trying to convince FI that we should start fostering.

I would love to foster, but I think I would fall in love with every animal and never want to give them up!
    image
  • That's my worry too Liz. The rescue gets overrun in the summer though, and they approached us about it when we adopted kitty. I just don't want to end up as the lady with 80 cats. Embarassed
    image
  • Yeah, FI and I foster. We're terrible foster parents, though. We keep them all! We have 3 cats, 4 kittens and a dog. We trapped a stray cat that hangs around our house to get her spayed. She ended up having kittens that day. They're so cute! But we definitely are going to try adopt them out.

  • Do you work with a specific rescue group? The one we went through gives the foster parents final say on all applicants, so they can say "No way" if they don't feel comfortable with the people.
    image
  • We do work with only one specific rescue group. One of FI's friend's wives actually runs it. They do a pretty decent job of screening the applicants. But we do get to meet with the applicants and see how they interact with the fur babies

  • That is great Lily. Let me know if you ever part with any of them. It's so easy to get attached!

  • Awww she's so cute!! If H wasn't allergic, we'd have probably 6 cats by now. I still bug him about it, but I know it will never happen.

  • Qwety, I used to be really allergic. I'm allergic to dogs too actually. The more you are around the dander, the more you can handle it. I had hives for the first few days with both dogs and the cat, but now I pop an allergy pill and I'm fine.

My heart breaks to hear this, but seeing her happy and healthy in a loving home with you guys makes it a lot better. What a cutie! She sounds like a sassy cat.
