NWR: Juicers

A few of my friends have gotten really into juicing, and I think my FI and I are going to give it a whirl.  I'm looking at juicers to either buy now or add to my registry, but I am shocked at the price differences in them.  The ones I looked at ranged from $40-$360!  Does anyone have one they recommend?

Re: NWR: Juicers

  • I don't know much about them...I briefly looked at reviews of inexpensive (<$60) ones online to see if it was worth adding one of those to the registry, and none of them had good ratings. My impression is that you will get what you pay for, and it's going to have to be a lot! Sorry I'm not much help.

  • I don't have a juicer either, but based on other kitchen appliances I agree with PPs in that you get what you pay for.  Esp. for a appliance using blades to chop something up - don't want to skimp on that.

  • my FMIL is really into juicing and she's told me all about her juicer and what to avoid when buying a juicer.

basically any of the more inexpensive juicers aren't worth your time & money.  they get warm from chopping up your veggies so quickly and heats the juice which is exactly what you DON'T want.  you want a juicer that grinds the veggies slowly with strong pressure (i think... something like that).

anyway, i would recommend doing more research on juicers (not just reading reviews on bb&b's website) and maybe asking to borrow one from a friend to see if you like it.  there are a lot of books/websites out there that can give you an idea of what to look for in a juicer without recommending specific brands... so at least then you'll have an idea of what to look for when you go shopping.
  • I don't juice, but I do make green smoothies with fruit and veggies in them.  I really want the vitamix, it will grind up any fruit or vegetable to a juice just like a juicer, but does not extract the pulp.  I normally look on amazon by popularity and customer reviews and then google "juicer reviews" to help me make decisions.  I would put it on my registry and if no one gets it you can always buy it!

  • I have juiced for several years and have used over a dozen different juicers from the jack l's, black and becker, sharper image, omega etc. The only juicer I have kept for a long amount of time, still have still use after 2 years no issues, is the breville juice fountain plus. You can get this model from bb&b and use the %20 off coupon or go to macys and they will match the price.

You really do get what you pay for.

Dont waste yout time and money on cheaper models to save a buck. It really costs you in the long run via produce. There is no sense in spending good money on fruits and veggies just to get wet pulp, and very little and "burnt" juice.
