Pretty sure I've posted this before, but TK was like ths 10 years ago, when I first joined as a bridesmaid in a wedding.
What incentive do they have to invest in the message board when people use it regardless of how horrible it is? They have the biggest racket in the wedding industry with this site. Other sites work better, are more ogranized, and are more aethetically pleasing, but TK still dominates.

And I'm honestly not being snarky...completely curious as to why you think. Posted by kelsey+brandon[/QUOTE] I think they have a marketing machine that embeds The Knot into the name of every women who has even though about their wedding. When they actually get engaged, This is where they think to come. I think they also use Search Engine Optimization to ensure that all roads lead to TK when searching for wedding info.
I think the lack of organization actually keeps people here longer. There's this thought that you're supposed to research, research, research wedding stuff and when you spend an hour on TK looking at what you think must be every strapless mermaid gown on the planet, you feel like you've done your homework.
What's more, vendors promote TK in a huge way. They pay A LOT of money to be a preferred vendor (I think a photog told me it costs $1,500) and come up in searches. There's more to that cycle, but I have a conference call in 20 and don't have much time. :)
I had never heard of TK until about a month after I got engaged.. someone at work said she used it a lot when she was helping her daughter plan her wedding.

That's what I was going to say.
Really, I have no idea but I'm tired of it not sorting posts.
Adding to what Claire said, popularity also breeds popularity. That is, TK's forums being highly trafficked with frequent posts/updates makes them more attractive to brides looking for forums to join; the more people there, the more frequent traffic, posts, and updates, and the more people join...
Honestly, I probably would never have joined TK in the first place had my local board here not been the most frequently updated of any other forum I'd seen at the time. Wedding Bee looked good, but at the time I really needed local support and suggestions and the WB forums for New Hampshire are not terribly popular. And I may not even have continued to stick around, but I discovered I had ties to some of the girls on my local board through mutual friends - and then I set the date and ventured over here and haven't left since
I have the same issues with TK and I can't stand that I don't have the ability to private message anyone!!! I've been trying to set up a get together with local Knotties and becuase of the crappy set up we have yet to make it happen
Those are all really good points! That is so true about their marketing. I don't even know how I jest heard about TK, but it was forever ago and I just found my way here.
I think I will go over to wedding bee to see if the NC board is better over there.
I do like how the bee always has the answers to my specific questions - especially DIY stuff. It is really helpful.
