Wedding Bands/Music

Hi Girls,
My wedding reception will be on the seacoast, and the venue has a killer stage. My fiance and I need an awesome band, but every group we've been finding is well over $5000, and we cannot afford to spend that much.  Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Would you be open hiring a cover band or does it have to be a real 'wedding' band? I am thinking a regular band that knows cover songs might charge substantially less because they wouldn't be familiar with wedding prices.

No, doesn't need to be a "wedding band" per say, just one that sounds fantastic live, could mc, and could keep the crowd up and moving.

This website was super helpful for me - but yes, a lot are very expensive. The woman I corresponded with was very helpful and can probably give you some suggestions.

I'd also look around town (online even) and see what bands play locally and regulalry - bands that play often are generally good and liked. Not sure where you live, but I know in the Boston and Worcester area they have local band awards and whatnot and that's a great way to get some ideas :)

I'd suggest going to some band expos....we went to a few in Boston, MA and found a band we LOVE...Groove Authority Band....the best part was, that we got to hear them play twice and they were just as good, fun, and upbeat the 2nd time we heard them...we hired them right away and cannot wait....they cost $5,000 though, but we figured b/c the entertainment is one of the important things at a wedding and to get the guests dancing, having fun, etc...this was an area we spent more $$ on....good luck...here is the link to Groove Authority Band's website:

Check out Boston Event Works.  They were at a Bridal Expo my co-worker and I went to and they have tons of bands to choose from.  The one that played at the Expo was called The Now and Forevers, and we went to see them again at the Hard Rock and they were amazing both times.  I already booked a DJ, but my co-worker ended up booking them, and the price was $3,500!

Tania - just wanted to hear more about the Now and the Forevers.  I spoke with the guy at Boston Event Works who highly recommends them but I wasn't impressed by their online video.
