Favorite diet/exercise routine?

…go!

I don’t need to lose any weight so it doesn’t have to be too extreme, I’m just in the mood to try a new diet.

Also, does anyone else do a cleanse before they change up their eating habits too?

I usually stop by GNC and pick up a different cleanse each time, but if anyone has a “favorite” let me know =]

I don't believe in "dieting" but I am picky about my healthy diet.
Breakfasts are always a nonfat green yogurt (usually plain, or with some oats in it)
    or oatmeal with cinnamon
(yup.. I'm a plane-janer with flavorings.. the less sugar, the better)

Lunch changes a lot, but it's usually reeeally high in veggies.
If I hit the gym in the morning, I always eat a banana afterward (or sometimes a protein shake, but only mixed with water anda bout a half scoop = about 90 calories for the protein kick)

Dinner is always high fiber. Best to fill you up and not make you want to snack later. I do brown rice, lentals, or quinoa with whatever I'm cooking that evening (often chicken or pork during the week for the leaner proteins) and again, a ton of veggies.

    Workout:
    mon- step (sometimes flow after)
tues- morning cardio with a friend, combat in the evening
wed- step in the morning. crossfit in the evening
thurs- morning cardio/weight training with a friend
fri- whatever I want with a 30 min ab class my gym has
    sat-combat or crossfit

I try to stick to a low carb and lean protein diet.  I need seomthing that will work with what I like to eat.

    My workouts are pretty fun.

    M/W- cardio body sculpting
    T/Th- cardio bosu
Sat- run or walk for a while

I want to get a bike because we have great places to ride around but have not yet.

Jeez FTL- How do you have time for so many workouts??

OP- I am a huge fan of weight watchers. I'm not "actively" doing it but I use it as a guide to my meals. They have some great dinner recipes.

As for workouts. I'm currently going through a life change when it comes to work outs. I used to do cardio classes (kickboxing, spin) 5 days a week for an hour but now I don't have that time.

So I do Jillian Michael's DVDs 5 days a week. They are usually between 30-40 minutes plus a long dog walk.

haha hike- the past couple weeks I haven't... I've only been making it to about half... but I try to fit it in.. It's tough, but those 530 gym classes keep me sane so I make it work.

    check out bodyrock.tv

all free excercises and healthy recipes-
the workouts are anywhere from 4 minutes long (you can stack a few of these together for a killer workout) to 30 minutes long to untimed rep challenges.

as far as diet goes, I'm with FTL in that I don't believe in diet- for something to stick and be successful it has to be a lifestyle decision. I don't do low carb- your body actually needs carbs to burn fat most effectively. I do all my carbs in the morning or after intense exercise (its a theory called "earning your carbs" in that you only eat carbs when your body is most primed to use them optimally- ie in the morning or after intense exercise). I tend to eat mostly organic food and I don't do anything that comes in a bag or box (except for my bread, which is organic ezekiel bread- I love this bread, great fiber content and made of wheat alternatives that are better on your digestive system- its flourless and it is low on  glycemic index and is made from sprouted whole grains)

FTL and I seem to eat very similarly. I eat lean meat (high quality protein), lots of veggies in a variety of colors; I love greek yogurt for breakfast and I am a huge fan of brown rice/lentils/quinoa!!

I'm pretty much a nutrition/health guru- I read all the time on the science and physiology behind how different foods effect our bodies. It fascinates me.

Huh, have never done a cleanse and don't have any plans to. The thought of that freaks me out. Is that just me?

My only trick is portion control, so I'm no help. Most of the time its chicken or fish, veggies. We do a lot of entree size salads, because it's easy. And we're lazy during the week. Weekends are for splurging! But I just had a reese's cup and liked it.

I would never do a cleanse in terms of one you buy at a store.  If I ever wanted to, I'd probably do a vegan raw food cleanse for a few days - just fruits and vegetables, either on their own or in a juice mix.  That just seems to make more sense to me in terms of pushing out toxins and refreshing your system.

I try to follow the Primal diet, which I'm a big fan of overall.  It also just seems to make sense, and is a lifestyle more than a "diet".  I never want to hop from one diet to another - it seems unhealthy to me.  If you're eating healthy things and putting good fuel into your body to make it work at optimum level, then there's no reason to change that up.

I'm also a big fan of Weight Watchers to give people an idea of portion control and moderation.  However, it can be twisted into "I'm only going to eat one candy bar per day and a whole bunch of celery", which makes no sense.  As long as a diet is well balanced and includes all the vitamins and minerals our bodies need, then Weight Watchers is a great way of making sure you're not overdoing your serving sizes or splurging on too many non-essential and non-beneficial foods, like nachos and chicken wings and beer and dessert (I might need to go back to Weight Watchers - yikes!).

I've been low carb-ing... which doesn't seem to be sticking lately :/ I loves me some carbs! But, if I'm being bad, I portion control.
No working out as of late, but my sister did get the Jillian Michaels dvds that I think I want to borrow for this last month, and try to get some tone.

If someone told me to try a cleanse a year ago, I would have thought they were off their rocker.  I absolutely do notttt use it as an extreme dieting method like some people tend to do.  I’ll do one if I’ve gotten lazy with what I’m putting in my body (happens often!) and feel gross and bloated.  Or if I’m gearing up to try a new fad diet to review it, and want a clean slate.  Typically 3-5 days is my limit.   Anything more than that, like a 2 week cleanse, is beyond dumb.

I’m a runner, and rely almost entirely on that for my work out.  I cannot stand classes like zumba or spinning!  I’ll do weights, but it’s seldom… maybe once or twice a week.  We do bike in the late fall/early spring time too.  We hit our goal of 40 miles 2 weeks ago!

Oh- I was the queen of the "quick fix" for a loooong time, so I have done pretty much every commercially available and homemade cleanse there is. I will say that the Master Cleanse works, but I couldn't leave my bathroom for the first 36 hours. I've done some from GNC and other health food stores. Basically I feel like they offer me the illusion of doing something.

I don't do that anymore, mainly I try to keep portions and cooking fats down, although I am making a brisket this weekend because it's getting chilly and I want something comforting. I have some yoga DVDs that I mainly just use for centering, and I do a pilates DVD 3 times a week. I also walk the dog every day for an hour, good for him, and good for me.

Oh firemed.. how I do love thee :) haha
I'm a big time nutrition/gym nut. I am constantly reading for fun. I love bettering my strength with weight training, because the more muscle means the more calories your bod needs to burn just to be alive. score! :P (Irish and I get on this topic a lot. She is the same as us)
I'm constantly looking up the best whey powders, the best supplements (by that I mean daily multivitamin.. I don't believe in fixers... I take a multi and a fish oil. that's it) and am anal about form. H gets mad because I always correct him (the man is hte WORST at squats... lol.. )

I do NOT believe in a low-carb diet. I believe in a more "natural" carb diet. Fruits have carbs people! :P

Yeah that is mine too.  I cut out the breads and pasta and all other not so good carbs.  I mainly eat berries for fruit just simply because I don't really care for a lot of other ones.

Yeah I don't believe in "dieting" like Firemed and FTL said.  It's a lifestyle.  Although I'm not always the best.   My diet follows pretty close to theirs.

As far as a work out, I've been working with a trainer here recently because I'm training to do a tough mudder so I'm doing a lot of injury prevention type stuft.  FI actually made fun of one of my circuits b/c it looked "girly" and I made him do it and he could barely walk the next day!  HA!
I love all of my circuits that my trainer gives me.  They're always different and keeps my body guessing, which is good!!  I could list them out for you if you want,  they're more for building strength and endurance.
Also, if you want to try something new that is also fun.  Try rock climbing.  I LOVE IT and it's so challenging and it works like every muscle that you have.  Just an idea!!
I get bored easily so I like to change things up!
