July 2012 Weddings

hi guys!

Every now and then I pop over to the July 2012 to see where things would have been, and to see where all of you are in the planning!  Looks like most invitations were sent out!

I defended my Masters last month and I graduated last Friday!  So nice to have that off my plate.  I have a few edits, but I'm relaxing for a bit first!

Flying home again this weekend for 2 nights.

No idea on wedding plans.  The thought of having to go through the loss of my father, that huge pain, THEN we get to have our happy wedding day is just making me so anxious.  Sometimes I feel the need to being control of something, but now is not the time for a weddingmoon.  Some friends were urging me to go on with the wedding I want, but there are just too many logistics.  We just don't know what we want - my dad to see us get married but in a place I do not want to associate with my wedding, get married wherever in the world we wish but alone, or have a wedding next year with guests.  We're all over the place!

On a happy note, here's my graduation photo:

Re: hi guys!

  • Congrats on graduating!  That is great news :)

So sorry you are still dealing with this struggle.  How is your dad doing??
  • Congrats on graduating!!  How is your dad doing?  I would do whatever you and your FI really want to do.  If you want the big wedding with a bunch of guests then wait.  Or if you want a small wedding with just a couple of people then go ahead and do it :)  Just do something that you won't regret down the road.

My dad ended curative care a few weeks ago.  It was the last trip to Chicago, and all the nurses and medical techs came in to say goodbye and cried.  Mom said the doctor even had a tear in his eye.

Now the town doctor will just do pain management.  He has given up driving for the most part.  He's on too many pain meds.  Hasn't started palliative care yet thought.

Here he is with his two new grandchildren.  He wasn't sure he'd see the 2nd one!

"Just do something that you won't regret down the road."

Easier said than done.  While you cannot know 100% what you will regret and what you won't regret, some options do stand out more than others.  Although no one answer stands out ENOUGH to rule out all others, know what I mean?
  • Congrats on graduating!!

Thanks for stopping by and giving us an update.  I would probably be doing the same thing you are with your dad in the condition he is in.  Adding wedding planning to your plate just seems really overwhelming.

    Nice to hear from you!!

I totally get where you are coming from.  It sounds like you just want it to be really a happy time which it should be.  Just wait you will know when the time is right and you ready.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your dad.  At least he is home now and has the pain medication he needs, sometimes that is better than being somewhere far away from home.  I'm glad he got to see his two grandchildren.  I would do what is best for you, it doesn't sound like you want to rush it, so don't!

Yes, you are right, I never worded like that, but I want to be in the right, happy state of mind for our wedding.
  • Congratulations on getting your master's!!! I defended in December 2010 and I still remember the feeling- were you very nervous before it?? I thought I was going to pass out!! :)

I'm sorry about your dad, where is he now? Are you able to see him once in a while?

I LOVE the picture of him with 2 babies! Whose babies are they??

I was pretty nervous!  Then when I started speaking, I rocked it.

Dad is in Indiana, I'm in Utah.  I fly out this weekend for a quick visit.  I guess I'll go every month from here on out?  We think it will happen this summer (his passing).  So hard to tell.  I saw him 2 months ago last time.

My two younger sisters each had a baby recently.  Logan born in Feburary, and Lillian born in March. I haven't met Lillian yet.  I hope I can this visit but sister said she's travelling to the ILs.  Maybe I'll catch her as soon as I land.
  • Congrats Gina!!! It is so good to hear from you!! <3  Hugs your way!! Congrats on graduating & becomng an aunt again!!!! Such a great feeling I bet!!! YAY!!

I love it when someone's dr.'s & nurses make a good connection with their patients...it makes me feel like they love what they do.  I hope your dad passes with no pain.  *hugs*
