Assigned Seating

Are you all doing Assigned seating?? We just got home from our tasting which was amazing.! And we are trying to decide if to do assigned seating or if that will just be one big hassle?? We are having two diffrent options for dinner so I am thinking assigned seating is the way to go so that we can tell the hotel ahead of time who gets what dish...

If you are doing two options, you need to do assigned seating unless the venue allows people to pick on the day of, which is usually referred to as "menu service".

It's a lot easier not to do assigned seating but...

I've heard that open seating means that you have to have more seats and thus more tables because people won't sit in even numbers, meaning there will be an open seat here and there.

I would definitely assign people to tables so there isn't confusion and so you can control who is sitting with whom. When they sit down, people generally place their escort card in front of them so the servers can see their name & give them the proper dish.

We may assign people to tables, but not assign them to seats. We're just doing a buffet so giving people specific seats isn't necessary. Since you're doing the different sit down meal choices, I'd assign seats just to make things a little easier.

We are assigning tables, but not seats. I don't have the room to provide extra tables, plus I like to make people mingle and get just a step out of their comfort zone by meeting new people.

We're doing assigned tables, not seats. I don't think I've ever had assigned seats. When it's a sit down dinner, there's usually a little colored sticker (or something similar) on the escort card that corresponds to the dish I picked out on the RSVP card. The servers can tell from that without having to be in a specific seat, which people are probably unlikely to stick to anyways.

Assigned tables here. I went to a wedding where there weren't assigned tables and it was a mess. People were moving tables and chairs and asking people to move and squeezing places. That pretty much sold me on having assigned tables.

We're doing assigned tables. We actually just talked a bit about it last night lol. Instead of table numbers were doing table names and it'll be water creatures I'm actually excited get those going!!!

Pretty much what everybody else said. Assigned tables, but not seats. We're having a sit down dinner, but its table platter style, so no need for escort cards.

Same as PP... Assigned tables, not assigned seats.

Not doing table numbers... I'm still working on the specifics, but I'm collecting Kettle One Vodka bottles... I'm going to remove the labels and write song lyrics wrapping around the bottles (might paint chalkboard paint on the base of the bottle and use chalk to write it on, or might just paint the lyrics on somehow)... will have each song title on a sign coming out of the bottle... so each table will be labeled by song title instead of table number...

Ahhh yes I'm changing my vote to assigned tables, not seats. I always forgot that some people assign actual seats so I always just refer to it as assigned seating. But I meant assigned tables!

I was going to do assigned seating, but my mom talked me out of it. But after reading this, I think i will definitely be doing assigned tables! I don't need any chaos on that day.
