DJ pricing

Me and my FI have been going around trying to find a DJ for the longest time now we have been getting different pricing from everyone but what i want to know is what is a typical price for a DJ? because they are telling me that they are giving me a deal but i want to make sure its the best one....we live in brooklyn and all of the DJ's we have been looking at are in the area we are having a 5 hour reception that would need to have music...any thoughts? we were just going to go with the least expensive package but how do i know that its a good deal?!

What are you getting quotes for - DJ + Emcee - any lights/favors, etc?

Standard one-person DJ/Emcee w/formalities for New York, 5 hours is anywhere from $1,300 to $2,000.  However, you can find some other companies that offer it for less (around the $1K area).

Most quotes I got were from $1,350-1,650.  I was able to negotiate a lower price with my DJ.

I would say dont just go with whats cheaper, bc they screw up the music, it'll ruin your party!  go with whos most reputable...whats a few hundred dollars amist the thousands that your spending on the entire wedding???? 3 things you cant go cheap with, food, pics, and music!

I'd read up on the reviews of people who's used them 1st, and ask to see them play at a party or taping.

    Good luck :)

    thanks everyone!

i have been getting anything from 1500 and up we have been looking for this one DJ company for some time now and after much searching we found them! they are quoting us 2000 with 3 people 1DJ and i think 2 EMCEEs, all of of the lighting is included, and we are going to have the flat screen there to show a montage of our "growing up" photos plus they go around and take pictures of the reception and put them on the screen as it is going on. so far thats the best deal we got and its also the most bang for our buck...

If you don't mind me asking, what dj company is this? My fiancé and I are going through the same thing, one dj quoted $5150, another $4000. We live in Brooklyn as well and can't seem to find the dj that won't break the bank.
