Has anyone tried medifast?

I just started medifats, in hopes to loose at least some weight before I go dress shopping this month. I've heard that this diet works. Has anyone else tried it? Any feedback is appreciated!

Re: Has anyone tried medifast?

  • I've known a few people who have done it and none of them managed to keep it off.  Sure, it works.  It was originally developed as a way for very obese individuals to lose weight quickly so that they were a low enough weight to not be super-high-risk during whatever surgery they needed.   But it doesn't teach you how to eat in a healthy manner so many users gain the weight back when they have to make their own choices with real food again.

  • Any weight loss plan where you have to use special food will work, but most of the time you gain the weight back plus some extra pounds - that's from my experience and my friends/family. I don't know how medifast would be different, but I don't know tonnes about it.

I would just be weary of any plan where you are not eating normal food, and be prepared for really hard work when it comes to the maintenance stage of the weight loss because like Anna said, you haven't learned how to eat in a healthy manner yet.

Hope you have great success in your weight loss! Smile

  • I haven't tried it myself but used to work for a large radio station where Medifast looked for radio talent and other employees to use their product for testimonials and, while it worked for some of my old co-workers, all found it very expensive even with the heavy discount they received.

That said I wish you the best of luck and hope it is successful for you!  Please keep us all updated on your progress!

  • My mom used it and lost over 100 lbs, but then she stopped using it and just switched back to food and gained most of it back.  From my understanding you're supposed to gradually re-introduce food to your life and understand food in a new way.  It's usually a jump start, but if you just go back to eating the foods you did before hand, then you'll just gain it back.

    Plus it is expensive.
  • One of my friends used this diet and lost a ton of weight. Unlike what PP have said, she has managed to keep the weight off even after she started to incorporate "regular" food back into her diet. She mentioned that it seemed like her stomack shrank and she can't eat as much at each meal as she did previously. Good luck!
