I don't think I am having a cake. Thoughts?

I don't really eat cake, neither does the FI. I have been to so many weddings where the cakes were just....wasted......and it's really not in the budget. SO what I think I am going to do is have a dessert bar in lieu of cake. Is this tacky?

Also, I told my MOH about this and she threated me with tradition and told me I needed to have something to cut even if she had to make it. (I love her... :) )

Thoughts?

  • I think a dessert bar is just fine. If you want to have something to cut, just get  small cake with no tiers.  I'm not a fan of cake either.  We are considering getting a cheesecake to cut, and then a variety of other desserts on the table with it. Also I've seen some pretty awesome rice crispy treat cakes online that look pretty easy to DYI, cheap too.  Dessert table definitely isn't tacky though.
  • Thanks. I really think the dessert bar will go over a ton better with my "Southern" family. We are having peach cobbler/ice cream, cookies and brownies, and a cheesecake bar of some sort.

Like I said, not many people in my family eat cake, I just can't see spending the money.
  • or cupcakes and dessert bar.
  • To each his own!
When one of my friends got married, they chose to do several pies instead of a cake.  And they didn't bother getting a cake for cutting into and feeding each other, they used a cherry pie.

  • Go for it! Cake is over-rated! :)
  • What desserts DO you like to eat? We are having a small 2 tier to cut from, them cupcakes and pies for the rest. I'm very creative with desserts, I could brainstorm something!
