Horrible Night [VENT]

So, I picked up my dress about 2 weeks ago from being altered.  They took it in and bustled it (hem was perfect).  The bustle was perfect, but it fit a little tight for my liking.  I told the girl this.. she told me to take it home, think on it, try it on again at the very beginning of May and if I still wasn't happy with it... bring it back and she would let it back out.  So, I took it back yesterday.  The girl who I worked with before wasn't there.  I tried it on for them and the lady said....
"now, I can let it out more than I pinned if you think this will be a problem again."  asked her what she meant.... "if you don't think you will be able to maintain your weight."    EXCUSE ME?  My weight wasn't the problem to begin with.  I explained to her that it was too tight as soon as I tried it on last time.  Anyway, got changed and went out to talk with them.  She tells me that she it's going to be $90.  (On top of the $140 we already paid).  I told her that I shouldn't have to pay it because it was her mistake.  She said that since I signed for it, I accepted the alterations..... even though the girl told me to take it home and bring it back if I still wanted changes.  Then she tells me that I can pick it up MAY 18..... Thats the DAY before my wedding... I live 2 hours from the store.  (I live in a tiny town forever away from everything).  I told her it wasn't possible and she got snippy and said "It's pushing it to get done by then."  I told her I could NOT come that day... so she made the apt for the 17th at 12:30.  I have no idea how I'm going to get off work.

Got home and the internet isn't working and my year old tv isn't working.  Had my first MAJOR meltdown.... still on the verge of tears this second.  I just feel like I'm drowning.

*sigh
/end vent.

Re: Horrible Night [VENT]

  • OMG I am so so sorry that this has happened.  Please, stand your ground.  You should not have to pay for the alterations.  Also, make sure to be as polite and calm as possible...they do have your dress!

I can vouch for you 110% though.  I went to my first fitting and she pulled the dress so tight! I explained to her that I didnt want it to be too tight (as this can cause back fat to bubble over so to speak on a strapless dress).  This has nothing to do with weight, it has to do with the fact that no matter what size, weight, shape you are, if something is too tight it is not flattering.  Well of course, I went back for my second fitting and it looked amazing everywhere! except for the fact that the top part was so tight my back looked massive! I explained to her that I didn't want to be uncomfortable, feel fat, or not be able to sit in my dress!  So she is taking out the top part 1/4 of an inch.  She said it wont be much and she did try to talk me out of it, but I stood my ground.  Lets hope when I pick it up May 16th that it will be ready!

May I ask where you are getting your dress altered?  I am asking because I am getting my dress altered at David's Bridal and they had initially said I could pick the dress up as early as May 9th (just one week after i requested she take it out).  It seems crazy that they cant at least rush the order...2 weeks seems plenty of time to make a small alteration.

Also - does the girl you spoke with still work there? If so, find out when she is working and make sure she honors her promise!

Good luck! sending positive vibes your way!

  • I'm sorry that happened to you. :(

I went for my 'final fitting' yesterday.  When I bought my dress last June it fit perfectly, and I've gained weight since then. (Could zip it, couldn't breathe and had ugly back fat problems) I get my dress on, and same problems as before.  I've gained more weight!  I went by myself, and this poor seamstress is trying to console me while I try not to bawl my eyes out in front of a stranger.  She is going to put a lace-up back in my gown that has buttons all down the back.  That'll look GREAT /sarcasm.  Got into the car, and bawled hysterically for about twenty minutes.  Have ate lots of lettuce today!

  • That sounds terrible!  I'd ask to speak to a manager and tell them what the first girl told you.
