Ceremony & Reception in Spring Lake, NJ

I really don't know how to ask this question, so I'm gonna just get right to the point!

Ceremony and reception are taking place at the same venue.  We're having pictures taken at the beach and around town.  The beach is 7 blocks away from the venue...I could walk that if I weren't in a wedding dress. :)

So, I will need transportation to get us to the beach, around town and back to the venue.  I wanted to do a party bus to keep everyone together, but for $1200.00 that seems like a lot of money for the amount of time we're spending in it.  Then I considered limo's...with the size of my bridal party I would need at least 3 limos.  That brought the amount down to $939.80.  If I pay cash, it's $860.00.  I then found a place that has a coach just the right size for my bridal party for $750.00.  That's still a lot of money for a 7 block trip.

Well, a very good friend of mine suggested the following:
The bridal party will have their own cars because they are driving themselves to the venue where everthing is taking place.  Why don't each of them drive themselves the 7 blocks to the beach and surrounding areas of Spring Lake?

Is it just me or does this seem a little tacky and wrong?

  • I personally think it would be fine.

  • I think it sounds fine as well.  I'm sure they could car pool too.  The only thing that may be an issue to me: how easy is it to find parking in Spring Lake during the time you are getting married.  I've never been to Spring Lake, so I'm not sure if there is a parking lot by the beach, etc.  If parking is not easy, it might take each bridal party member a long time to park and make their way to the beach.  Then the remainder of your day could get off schedule due to the pictures.

Is it possible that you have a family member, who has a mini van that could run the bridal party back and forth to the beach as a shuttle?  7 Blocks isn't that far, so if you & FI go in the first van trip, the photographer could get couple shots and on the next trip with the remaining bridal party, begin to get the group shots.
  • we had a similar set-up for our wedding and it just seemed silly to rent a vehicle for such a short trip! we got ready at reception/hotel venue, carpooled to ceremony site (i went with MOH (sis), dad and photog, my mom went with in laws and another BM (SIL), hubby went with BM and his wife, another bridal party member and the remaining BM's went as a foursome with their hubbies). no one complained  bit - it was all of a 5 min ride!
