Bed Bath & Beyond and Crate & Barrel. :)

Bed Bath & Beyond: They have 20% coupons all the time, brands that we like (OXO, our Calphalon pots/pans, our Henckels knives, Kate Spade China), and stores are everywhere. Also, BBB is supposed to be excellent with returns/exchanges.

Crate & Barrel: I bought my everyday dishes from here a few years ago and want more pieces from that style. I also love their flatware and glasses.

I almost registered at Macy's instead of Bed Bath & Beyond, but Macy's pricing is a pain (you have to watch for sales), and the only thing Macy's had that BBB didn't that we want are the Hotel Collection towels.
  • Target - It's the cheapest of my 3 and I am having a large number of people invited to my shower and 224 to the wedding so I wanted a variety...plus everyone has a Target nearby.

BBB - Coupons!  And variety...  Plus the china pattern I selected was significantly cheaper at BBB than at Macy's.  If you're doing china, select one you love and then compare prices.

Kohls - I selected Kohls simply because they have the bedding that I liked the best there...so I've managed to find other things here and there that I've thrown onto their registry.  They also have coupons and everything is always on sale it seems.
  • Macys - Mostly for the rewards, and because it was literally the only department store near every one of our guests.  I have some guests in the midwest with Macy's nearby but no BBB

Pottery Barn - I'm obsessed with their bedding and towels.  FI cares a lot about towels, and PBs were his favorite.  I care a lot about how our sheets feel and how our bed looks (FI doesn't understand my love of throw pillows), so it was a clear choice for us.  They also have some nice serving pieces that will mix well with most any dinnerware sets, and we actually entertain a good bit.  We'll entertain even more once we finally buy a house and have the space.

Williams Sonoma - I know this is going to sound crazy, but we pretty much registered there for their goldtouch bakeware and kitchen linens.  They have some other items we loved as well that we couldn't find at other places - my aunt got us a large emile henry casserole from our registry that will look great going oven to table - but the bakeware and linens were the biggest reason behind that choice!

Local shop - Not going to put the name here for security purposes, but there is a small china shop in my hometown where my shower is located.  Though the other three stores are (relatively) near by, it's still sort of a day trip for guests from my hometown to shop in-store at any of the other three, so we decided to set up a small registry here.  To be honest I was convinced we wouldn't get much of anything from it...  it's a bit overpriced and it's one of those little boutique stores that I feel awkward going into.... but my shower is on Saturday, and it sounds like it's been the most popular place!  My mom went there yesterday to pick up a wedding gift (from the only person we knew would shop there), and they told her they had had all sorts of people in there for my shower this weekend.  So we may have to expand that list!

  • We did Bed Bath and Beyond.

It's a chain.  It's everywhere.  Everyone gets those 20% off coupons.

When we did go in there to set up our registry and then buy it out afterwards, everyone was SO helpful and kind.  I have nothing bad to say about them,
  • Macys because we have a Macys card and they have the Martha Stewart line that we both loved. Plus they were the only place that carried the color stand mixer that I wanted. H's aunt also works at Macy's corporate so she gets crazy discounts.

BBB because everyone coming lives by one and Macys didn't carry all of the things we wanted. Plus the 20% coupon really helped out.
  • Macys:  It's everywhere, has more sales than Bloomingdales but with a similar upscale feel, and had the widest range of products. Macys has the highest amount of our stuff, including our Marchesa by Lenox China, our crystal, and sheets/towels/pillows, etc. We had a great time wandering the floor, and I really wanted to be left alone by the sales people, and they did!

Williams Sonoma:  I consider myself a decent home cook, and WS had a great selection of little gadgets and linens, plus I found they price their Le Creuset slightly lower than Macys. I also just love that store and have been wanting to register there since I was young. Oddly, most of our $20.00 and under stuff is from WS, along with some electrics, cookbooks, and wine glasses

Jonathan Adler:   I love his designs, and fell in love with a bedding set from here. I call this our "fun stuff" registry, because it only has a few items, and it is kind of pricey. I didn't really tell anyone about this one except for close family and bridesmaids. It has our gorgeous bedding, plus fun little knickknacks like porcelain frames, a teapot shaped like an elephant, a cross-stitched pillow that says "Love" and a trivet shaped like a pig! I don't think I'll get anything from here (other than the bedding) but if I do I'll be delighted!

  • Amazon.com... you can register for basically anything under the sun, and people are able to look up the registry and purchase from a local store if they prefer to do so instead of online.

We are also doing a small registry at Bed, Bath & Beyond or Macy's, for those who do not use computers or would rather have a standard style registry to shop off of.
    Praying for a miracle!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: where are you registering and why? : What part of the Midwest?  There are BBBs all over Kansas and Missouri.  In fact, you'd be more likely to find a BBB in a mid-size college town than a Macys! We chose Crate and Barrel because it fits our style and the prices are very reasonable.  Here, we registered for dinnerware, flatware, glassware, cutlery and home decor, as well as a few small basic kitchen electrics we don't already have (waffle maker, emersion blender and an ice cream maker).  We also registered for basic towels and sheets there, but their bedding selection isn't great and, in my opinion, low quality.  Fortunately, the sheets sets we asked for (and have already received) were on clearance, which at least made the price reflect the quality. We also registered at Sears because several of the smaller towns near our guests have them, and also because we have an already established home and wanted a place with more nontraditional registry items to choose from.  Here, we registered for a shop vac, safe, dehumidifier, blow-up mattress, card tables and chairs, and lots of lawn and garden items.  I will say however that regardless of the convenience very few people have actually shopped and purchased gifts here, so I wouldn't recommend it.

</div><div>Well I suppose it's northern midwest - North Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Minnesota.... etc. I searched by zip code, and BBBs weren't around but Macy's were for their particular locations.  I REALLY wanted to register at Dillard's, but there are so few in California (where another huge contingency is from) that I couldn't bring myself to pick them.

  • Not registering and hoping and praying people respect my request to not to give a gift, and just bless us with their presence.

</div><div>I grew up in an Amish town in Illinois...so the nearest BBB is over an hour away.  Targets and Macys are much closer.

  • WS-I love their selection of cookware. We have a range of items here-our pricey items, and a bunch of less expensive stuff.
Deciding between Macy's and Pottery Barn for the other.

  • BBB because I have heard nothing but good things about them. Their prices on almost everything are extremely reasonable & there is one easily accessible to all of our guests (we have no OOT guests). I love their selection of cookware & kitchen gadgets. Most of our items are here.

Macys because I like their barware sets and such. I was a little worried about the price of things at macys, but I have compared the price of the items we regsitered for to other places, and they are pretty standard. Honestly, I have only 20 items on this registry. Its also nearby.

Target because they have some home decor that I really liked & their prices are really good. I have heard some pretty bad things about their return policy & their website doesnt always work (I used websites for all three stores), but again, I think I only have like 30 items on this one. Also, its in the same plaza as BBB so that makes it easy to get to as well.

  • Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma because I lub them.

Very small registries (under 15 items) at Crate & Barrel and Macy's because our guests like to shop there, and they each had maybe 1 or 2 things that I could not find anywhere else.

  • WS because we love to cook and it covers all of the upgrades we need! We would have been happy with just WS, but we added a smaller BBB registry for sheets and towels because WS is not convenient for some guests who might prefer to shop in person. We've had so much fun making our registries!
  • BBB- I had great experiences here while shopping for 3 weddings last year. I was able to use coupons and they gift wrapped everything for me. They also have a hasssle free return policy. They really do have a large selection. They even had my Lenox cake topper online that was not in stores. I also had found another Lenox piece that I wanted and they did not carry and they said they would try to see if there is any way that they can make it available to purchase for my registry. The consultant we worked with was so friendly and even made us coffee while she walked around with us. At first I thought I didn't want someone so "hands on", but we had a fun time and she really did help us sort out what we needed and kept us in order. I also like how they printed registry cards (as many as I wanted) right there for me to take home.

Pottery Barm- I really can't afford to shop here, but I love all of their things. I would love to have a few nice things like towels and linens from PB and I like their monogramming. The registry from PB is very small, didn't go to a store to register (it is about an hour away from me).

My Registry.com- for a few items I have found here and there... a monogrammed garden flag, cookbooks, Temptations bakeware set, a few random Lenox pieces.

  • We're registered at BBB, Target, and Ten Thousand Villages. By far, our BBB registry is the most popular, and I don't blame people. With the coupons, the prices are spot on, and when we've had duplicates/returns so far, they've been easy. I have had to do one exchange with Ten Thousand Villages, and they were easy peesy.

I have to say that yesterday we got two packages from Target. One package wasn't even in a box--it was straight from the shelf, and there was not a single bit of packing material. The other package was in a box, no packing material. Neither package included a packing slip, nor did it include a gift message. When I contacted them, they said the recipient declined to be recognized. I found out by mistake who sent it, and she sent she sent a gift message. Even though they are easy to buy from, based on the shoddy packing/lack of packing slip/gift message, I'd never recommend them. If a friend hadn't already sent out shower invites with a note we were registered at Target, I'd delete the whole thing. I don't want to receive a gift and be unable to thank people!

If I could do it again, I'd never change my mind on BBB. They're easy peesy, and I'm glad to support Ten Thousand Villages. Target? Forget it. Never again. Ever.
  • My mom is the registry! She set us up an online registry for those who are tech saavy, but the majority of our guests are computer illiterate, and from rural areas, with no stores near them, so it was easier to give my mom a list of the items we need, and the guests have been calling her for ideas.
