A couple years ago I somehow stumbled upon a blog written by a man named Matt Logelin (I think I may have seen him on a talk show or read about him online). The blog was originally written by him to keep family and friends updated on the status of his wife's pregnancy and their future daughter's birth. It was updated on a regular basis leading up to, and including, the day the couple's first daughter was born and the birth day post even included pictures of Matt's wife, Liz, just after giving birth.
Sadly, the next post on the blog was posted four days later and it was an obituary for Liz who had died of a pulmonary embolism a mere 27 hours after giving birth while she was on her way to hold her new daughter for the first time.
The blog continued after that as Matt shared the hardships and joys he encountered while raising a newborn daughter on his own and simultaneously coping with the loss of his one true love.
I remember crying when I read through the blog for the first time and I followed it for a month or two but stopped after awhile. As it turns out, Matt's blog was widely followed by people all across the world and he wound up writing a book about his relationship with Liz, the birth of their daughter, and his life with his daughter after Liz passed away. I had no idea he wrote a book until I was in Barnes and Noble the other day and happened to see one titled
Two Kisses for Maddy by someone whose name sounded really familiar (yes, I can be that dense sometimes, haha). At first I was like there's NO WAY this is him, but I flipped through the book and realized that it was.
Of course I had to buy it on the spot and, while I haven't had a chance to sit down and read it yet, I read some reviews and they all say what an amazing story it is. So I just wanted to pass along the information in case anyone's on the lookout for an uplifting, albeit sad, book to read.
Here is the site that talks about the book:
