Hawaii Honeymoon

Is anyone going to Hawaii or been to Hawaii for their honeymoon?  Can you recommend someplace good to stay in Maui or Oahu?  The travel agent is recommending the Hyatt - but the reviews are mixed.  Some of the other places look good also, like the Westin, but some of the reviews say it's not worth the money.  We want something nice obviously, and are willing to pay a little more (not a ton more) but want to make sure it's worth it.

  • I highly recommend doing a search on this board. You can find the search function at the bottom of the chat board page. There are tons of helpful posts on Hawaii. You should also check our Tripadvisor.com. That being said, not knowing your budget and preferences, it's hard to give specific recommendations. However, I have stayed at the Hyatt in Oahu and did not care for it. But, I didn't like Oahu as a whole, as I do not  like larger cities, crowds, and overly touristy areas. You may prefer that. the Hyatt in Maui is a good option, as is the Westin, as you mentioned, but if you want to consider something a little less touristy, check out the resorts in Wailea. The Marriott will probably be the most budget friendly.

  • We're going to Hawaii for our honeymoon (only 26 more days!!). We're spending 5 nights  on Maui - staying at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali http://bit.ly/TyMC1w
Then spending 2 nights on Oahu - staying at Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach http://bit.ly/NtQ9LR.
Both hotels look very awesome and have good reviews. I mainly used TripAdvisor.com for reviews and pictures.
  • We did Oahu for our Hm. We stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki and absolutely loved it. I will say it is a larger resort. There are of course pros and cons. It was always busy while we were there, but at the same time, never noisy in our room. We got an oceanview room and loved it. We'd sleep with the slider cracked to hear the waves.

They also have an absolutely amazing infinity pool that is 16 and over only and they do strictly enforce the age limit. No kids. It looks right out over the Pacific and we loved floating in a bean bag while sipping on a Pina Colada. It was also very centrally located to shops, restaurants, etc. If that's not your speed, we did walk through and dine at the Moana Surfrider, a Westin hotel, and it looked very nice--had a huge banyan tree by their pool, a good restaurant and was built to look like a Southern plantation. It was smaller than the Sheraton.

  • We went to Maui and stayed at the Westin. I was not a fan. The rooms are very small and for the price the service was very subpar. And parking at the hotel is a nightmare. I didn't really like Ka'anapalitoo touristy, I wish we had stayed in South Maui instead. But I highly recommend the spa at the Westin!

  • We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Waimea on Maui and loved it.  Our room was actually a suite overlooking the pool.  They had this fabulous breakfast buffet poolside and gorgeous beaches steps from our room.   My DH worked a deal through AMEX to get a decent price that included the breakfast buffet.
  • We honeymooned on Oahu and Maui this past October and stayed at the Hyatt on both islands. The hotels were gorgeous, especially on Maui. My husband and I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Good luck!
