Christmas in July Wedding?!?

I went up to my venue today. When we got there, the gate to the driveway was locked, and the owners were apologizing, saying they'd had a late night with a "crazy" wedding there last night. They then proceeded to tell us that it was a "Christmas in July" themed wedding, complete with Christmas lights everywhere and a GIANT decorated tree on the dance floor, and Christmas cookies for favors....

I had never heard of such a thing, but apparently it's the 2nd one they've had there! What do you guys think? Genius? Or crazy?

It might be an awesome idea if the venue was a lodgey type feel and they a huge budget to have someone come in and make real snow all around. Or have it snowing during the ceremony while its 80 outside. Have a tree for your guests to put their presents around - ask them to wear their favorite tacky christmas sweater. It could work...I wouldn't want it for my wedding, but it might be an awesome party.

I can see it going 2 ways - incredibly tacky or very pretty. Though I wouldn't do it myself (even in December), it sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

For the longest time, I envisioned having a snowflake themed wedding because I LOVE snowflakes!! All of my Christmas decorations are snowflakes and most of them are very beautiful. I love the sparkle!

When we decided to get married in July, I thought of the "Christmas in July" thing and wondered if I could incorporate my snowflakes. That lasted for about 5 minutes and I moved on! To me, the magic of Christmas should be left to December. I was in a Hallmark store this weekend and they were playing Christmas music and it was WAY too soon! Christmas in July just isn't my thing!

NMS. It could be either a really cute theme or a really tacky theme, depending on how the execution went down. Definitely a big risk to undertake, and there would probably open the doors to all kinds of snarky comments.

I guess I could see it if the bride and groom are known for being Christmas fanatics (although why not just do it in December then?)...but it just seems odd to me.

Yeah...not my cup of tea. Christmas in July just makes me think of weird schlocky sales. It would take a LOT of work to make it cute/fun and not rather tacky, even if they did the elegant-style Christmas decor. Unless it was a destination wedding to a snow-covered place like Antarctica

I may be a bit weird but it sounds EPIC to me, kinda sad my wedding date is in September.... If it was planned right it would be an amazing thing, everyone would be in a good mood and get a touch of the "Christmas Spirit"

I'm doing a christmas in july wedding! who cares if it's going to be "tacky"? who has the right to say that anways? You only live once, might as well have fun! We're hoping Santa will join us!! And we're going to have a mall like photo booth! it's going to be way too much fun, but i must not share all my secrets! I'm hoping to post pictures!
