Is anyone planning a surprise for their FI for the wedding? MGs, did you plan a surprise for your Hs, or did they plan a surprise for you?
I've never been able to successfully plan a surprise in the past, so that's why I don't really attempt it anymore - which I've told him and he seems to understand, but I still feel bad. FI recently confessed to me that he was trying to book a photobooth to surprise me, since I really wanted one but we scrapped it because of the budget. I was organizing a cool photoshoot location but I eventually told him about it, and he commented that it would've been cool if I'd kept it a surprise for the wedding day (even though it looks like it's not going to happen after all, of course, because that's just my luck).
He was thinking of a cigar roller a while back, but eventually said that it wasn't worth it. So I don't know if he really wants one but doesn't want to spend the money, or if he REALLY feels that it's a waste. And for the life of me, I can't think of a cool gift to get for him. I know it's not a big deal, but he's surprised me with some thoughtful things in the past and I'd like to successfully reciprocate it.
Re: Surprises for FI/you
If you are having a vienesse hour, then you can place a bunch of cigars by the coffee bar or if not having a vienesse hour, then at a table that people can see it while desert is being served. You can order a couple of matches with your wedding dates on it and get the cigars from J & R and maybe ask if they could help you order labels for the cigars with your names on it and stuff. Your FI would probably be surprised that cigars were still incorporated on the wedding even if you didnt have a cigar roller.
He was also talking about getting this special beer from Wisconsin, but he already ordered it on his own. Maybe I'll see if there's another rare one that he'd like.
How long does it take to get a ring engraved? That's another nice idea.

My jeweler had it done while I waited...he cleaned my ring for the 20 minutes or so it took.
My jeweler is at the Jewelery Exchange by the Willowbrook Mall. They have an engraver on site there.

What kind of beer from Wisconsin? I'm from there, so I could tell you if there's another good one to get for him.

He ordered a case of the New Glarus Belgian Red.
I think he'd crap his pants if I could get him a Fantome beer glass. Apparently it's the rarest beer glass in the world and it's impossible to find. I'd be the World's Best Wife if I could track this puppy down:

Mmmmm, yep I would have recommended New Glarus. They have other beers that are really good. I like the Spotted Cow for a light beer. But the Belgian Red is delish! We used to drink it a lot when I was in grad school there.
I don't know where to find a Fantome glass, but what about Das Boot? Would he be into something like that instead?
He might like Das Boot. Maybe I'll prod at him a bit and see.
The Rt. 17 store doesn't have a smoking lounge.
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
[QUOTE]H didn't do much wedding planning so everything was pretty much a surprise.

Us too!
Mh got me a camera that I really wanted. He kept telling me no that we didnt need it but he surprised me. I got him box seats to see the devils play the penquins. He loved it
My dad said he was going to surprise me with a string quartet- luckily I already hired a harpist and told him so. As nice as that is and string quartet was not my vision.
[QUOTE]Allie, J & R is a cigar store. They selll different types of cigars, some even have a lounge for you to have a cigar. The one on Route 46 by Denville does. I dont know about the one on Route 17

JR is also on Route 10 in I believe that is either Whippany or East Hanover. I do not know abou tthe one on 46 in Denville or the one on 17. I know the one on 10 has a bar where you can smoke also.
