Surprises for FI/you

Is anyone planning a surprise for their FI for the wedding? MGs, did you plan a surprise for your Hs, or did they plan a surprise for you?

I've never been able to successfully plan a surprise in the past, so that's why I don't really attempt it anymore - which I've told him and he seems to understand, but I still feel bad. FI recently confessed to me that he was trying to book a photobooth to surprise me, since I really wanted one but we scrapped it because of the budget. I was organizing a cool photoshoot location but I eventually told him about it, and he commented that it would've been cool if I'd kept it a surprise for the wedding day (even though it looks like it's not going to happen after all, of course, because that's just my luck).

He was thinking of a cigar roller a while back, but eventually said that it wasn't worth it. So I don't know if he really wants one but doesn't want to spend the money, or if he REALLY feels that it's a waste. And for the life of me, I can't think of a cool gift to get for him. I know it's not a big deal, but he's surprised me with some thoughtful things in the past and I'd like to successfully reciprocate it.

FI and I decided not to get each other gifts, but of course I saw a post about the B-pics and looked into it and now I want to get him that....haha  Oh well.  I figured out that I didn't have the money to get him his ring and the pics.
But then we went to the jewelry store the yesterday and I found out that the ring he wants is $1000 less then what I was expecting to pay!  So he will get the B-pics after all.  I am doing my best to hide it from him.  Oh and there were these $25 cuff links that he wanted, that I will have someone bring to him while he is getting ready.  So yes, I am surprising him with gifts, that we said we were not going to get for each other....haha  I will probably end up telling him that I am getting him something but he will have to wait until the wedding night to get it.

I had MH's ring engraved...he had no idea until the wedding day. I thought it was a good surprise and he really liked it.  He had wanted to get it engraved and we never did it.  A week before the wedding he was like "I guess I'm not getting the ring engraved".  well, I got it done when I went home to NJ a few days before the wedding....so it was a big surprise.

If you dont want to spend the money on a cigar roller, you can still incorporate cigars at the wedding.

If you are having a vienesse hour, then you can place a bunch of cigars by the coffee bar or if not having a vienesse hour, then at a table that people can see it while desert is being served.  You can order a couple of matches with your wedding dates on it and get the cigars from J & R and maybe ask if they could help you order labels for the cigars with your names on it and stuff.  Your FI would probably be surprised that cigars were still incorporated on the wedding even if you didnt have a cigar roller.

He might be planning to bring along his own cigars, I don't know. If not, then that is a good idea.

He was also talking about getting this special beer from Wisconsin, but he already ordered it on his own. Maybe I'll see if there's another rare one that he'd like.

How long does it take to get a ring engraved? That's another nice idea.

My jeweler had it done while I waited...he cleaned my ring for the 20 minutes or so it took.

My jeweler is at the Jewelery Exchange by the Willowbrook Mall.  They have an engraver on site there.

What kind of beer from Wisconsin? I'm from there, so I could tell you if there's another good one to get for him.

He likes JR (it's a cigar store up in Paramus on Rt. 17). That's a good idea.

He ordered a case of the New Glarus Belgian Red.

I think he'd crap his pants if I could get him a Fantome beer glass. Apparently it's the rarest beer glass in the world and it's impossible to find. I'd be the World's Best Wife if I could track this puppy down:

Mmmmm, yep I would have recommended New Glarus. They have other beers that are really good. I like the Spotted Cow for a light beer. But the Belgian Red is delish! We used to drink it a lot when I was in grad school there.

I don't know where to find a Fantome glass, but what about Das Boot? Would he be into something like that instead?

He got a split case of cherry and raspberry. I forget if we'd tried Spotted Cow.

He might like Das Boot. Maybe I'll prod at him a bit and see.

The Rt. 17 store doesn't have a smoking lounge.

I was going to surprise my FI with a Yankees yarmulke to wear during our (Jewish) ceremony - the guy lives in Yankees hats and his running joke is that he's wearing one to the wedding. But, I couldn't decide which style to get him so I told him my plan so that he could pick it out. I am bad with surprises!  I have a couple surprises planned for the honeymoon though :)

gifts as surprises are a good idea-- but surprises during a wedding are probably not the best idea.

My dad said he was going to surprise me with a string quartet- luckily I already hired a harpist and told him so.  As nice as that is and string quartet was not my vision.

I didnt really plan ahead on surpising him but...

My fiancee is a huge hockey fan and he used to "joke" when we were first engaged that it would be awesome to have our cake in the shape of the stanley cup. i of course vetoed that right away hahah.
but i talked to my cake makers and they are going to make him a stanley cup grooms cake with his favorite teams emblem on it for only 200 $ extra!
It will be a total surprise for him! i cant wait!
plus thats not even his wedding present!

my fiancee is thoughtful and gotten me some amazing things in the past as well im sure if you put your mind to it you can come up with something completely unique that he'll never expect.
i hope you both have an absolutely amazing day...surprise or no surprise  :)
