Outdoor Ceremony/Reception

Hey guys! I am just curious as to how many of you are having your ceremony and/or reception outside.

I am having my ceremony outside and then my reception is tented. I'm driving myself crazy worrying that it is going to be miserably hot! Is anyone else thinking of this? Are you guys doing anything to keep it cool? We are able to "air condition" the tent but it's an extra $7000 then. (I think that seems pretty steep!) I'm just worried that everyone is going to be miserable, because this summer is already crazy hot. I don't feel like it is usually this hot in June.

Re: Outdoor Ceremony/Reception

  • I would think in PA it wouldn't be SO hot (coming from someone who lives deep in the heart of TX, lol). Here it's already 95 and climbing. It will probably top 100 during our wedding, but we are doing indoor ceremony. Our reception is indoor/outdoor, but I know it will definitely be hot.

  • We are having an outdoor ceremony, but I'm not too concerned about the heat.  I'm guessing our ceremony will only be about 20 minutes, so even if it's hot, it shouldn't be too bad.  The receptiopn is indoors.

  • Outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour.....reception is on the covered patio of the restaurant.

  • I'm having an outdoor ceremony and reception.  I'm worried about it being hot.  Today in Knoxville was 91 degrees (not normal for this time of year).  The ceremony shouldn't be more than 30 minutes and our programs are fans. The reception is in a tent with fans.  I'm stressing about it, but my FI says don't worry...it will be great!  I'm trying to catch his attitude.

  • Our ceremony/reception are both outside. I'm also concerned about weather. I don't want it to rain, and I don't want it to be too hot! But some things are out of our control..

We do have a canopy for the reception, and tents over all the carnival games and food, so that should be a lot of shade. :) I think if you have a tent for everyone that is pretty decent.

  • I am getting married in 25 days on the side steps of a plantation (which was the orginal entrance). I am concened about the heat since I live in the South, but I am hoping it will be bareable since it is an evening wedding. I purchased hand fans for guests to fan themselves. The reception is indoor/outdoor.
  • I'm having an outside reception and i'm worried bc i leave in houston, tx and just this past weekend i was hot so i'm hoping the guests don't get overly hot. It is a shaded area but i don't know how the breeze is.
  • when are you getting married? It's supposed to cool down a bit up here this weekend

I'm getting married in Central PA (near Lancaster) next Friday-outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour. Indoor reception (all weather permitting). Thankfully it's supposed to cool down next week. Our ceremony isn't until 6pm so it shouldn't be BLAZING hot.

Are you having a day time or evening wedding? I think as long as there is shade and air moving you will be OK. That price seems so steep for a a/c!

  • Thanks for the input everyone. I can't believe how hot it is already. Last night (overnight) it was 82 degrees! I hope all of our days turn out beautiful! No rain, or crazy heat waves! I'm gonna try to stop stressing and go with the flow... :-)

  • Quite the opposite.. I am afraid people are going to get cold.
We are getting married in a canyon.. and yeap it snowed there last weekend. We rented heaters and are going to have fires going.
  • I'm having an outdoor ceremony but the reception is inside. I'm not tooo worried about the heat. The weather forecast looks good. We however do have a back up plan if it rains.

  • I'm getting married this Sat. My ceremony is tented outdoors and reception is indoors. So far, Mother Nature looks to be awesome to me as Saturday's forecast shows no rain and 70 degrees which is perfection!
  • I'm having an outdoor wedding and reception. I'm more concerned about it raining than the heat. It will be at my FH parents property, so they will have the a/c on inside if anyone gets too hot. But, I don't think that will be an issue. I'm just praying that it doesn't rain.
  • We are having an outdoor ceremony and tented reception. Id rather have it hot than raining.....

  • We were planning on having everything outside, but have recently changed our reception to be inside. Our venue is right on the lake, so it is always a little bit colder in that area, and super windy, and the high is only expected to be 68 so I didn't want everyone to freeze.

When the plan was to have it outside I was stressing about the heat as well. We live in Wisconsin, so you never know what you are going to get!

  • I'm having an outdoor ceremony.  If the weather isn't so great we'll still be outside, just under a tent.
