Newly engaged - vendor help!

Hi! I just got engaged a little over a month ago and now in the process of planning. We've already got our reception and church locked down, so now it's time to find vendors (we're doing it at a hotel so fortunately, food and drink are already included). Does anyone have any suggestions for photographers or DJs? Ideally, I'd like to keep the photographer under $1000 if we can. I've gotten a good idea of how much a photographer normally goes for, but what's the normal fee for a DJ for a 5 hour reception? Not sure what we should be looking for. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome! There was a post listing photographers not too long ago. I think you'll get a lot of suggestions there. Most photogs will customize your package to give you what you want at the price you want.

DJs are typically somewhere between $600-800 for 5 hours (I think -- it's been a while since I booked my DJ). There are a lot of Knottie faves: RJ Vida, Rob Sword...

Let us know how to help!

I decided to splurge a little on the photography but I spoke with Stephanie A. Smith and she was very reasonsable because she's new in the business and she takes amazing photos!  You should check her out.  I'm using Rob Sword from Sword Sounds for my DJ and it's $750 for my ceremony on the beach and 5 hours of reception time.

Jessica Leigh is in your price range for a photographer. Is is out of Orlando and charges a travel fee but her prices were still very reasonable. She will be doing my engagment pictures next week and our wedding in October.

We are using Dave from Frank Lebano and Co. for our DJ. For 5.5 hours of music we are paying $650.

    HTH!

I am using Todd Gilman from event photography and his rates are very reasonable.
Our dj, Chris Grumbly, is hired for the entire day and his rate was 700 when we hired him back at the beginning of the year.

We used Dawn Haas Photography who is just above your budget but really worth it. We also used Dan from Sword Sounds and were really pleased.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I checked out all the vendors and it's definitely going to be a tough decision! Good to know they were all highly recommended though :)
