Dream HM?

So I saw this on a month board and thought it would be interesting (but I'm going to add a catch lol)

If you could have any HM, no money/job, restrictions, where would you go? But you can't be gone longer than 3 months.

FI and I would, without a freaking doubt, spend every second of that 3 months in Japan. We'd probably stop at Tokyo first. It's not our absolute must see, but you have to visit Tokyo if you go to Japan. I hear you can go to Tsukiji and eat the most amazing fresh sushi for breakfast. I would wet myself with glee. lol

On our way to Kyoto, we'd stop by Mount Fuji. In Kyoto we'd stay at a ryokan and enjoy old world Japanese culture and take a bath in an onsen (natural hot spring). Oh dear lord I would die.

We'd probably actually take a week and just travel to wherever the locals suggested. Gotta trust the locals Wink Then we'd make our way to Okinawa. The Japanese go here for vacations because apparently it's like a beach paradise. Yeah, that'd be a nice way to end the trip. =)

Geez, can you tell I've dreamed about this trip?

Soo... what would YOU do?

Re: Dream HM?

  • I think we would do all of Europe.  Land and sea.  I'd love to go to Portugal, and visit every island my family is from.  I'd love a week in France.  I'm not sure really.  This is hard.
  • Had an acquaintance spend two months backpacking through Europe. She put all her pics on Facebook and I would love to do that. Not sure about if I would want to do that for a HM though...

Europe has always fascinated me, I wouldn't be able to pick one spot. So my itinerary would be- Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, UK, Denmark, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Greece. If I stop at a few more on the way, that would be nice. WOW that's a lot of places :/ thanks for the three month window!
  • I've already been to a few countries in Europe and I would love to go back, or go on a cruise to Belize. But, if I had unlimited funds & time I would love to visit Austrailia.
  • I would DIE cos i would want to go everywhere...I would do thailand, india, malaysia and austrailia....

  • Probably Australia and New Zealand. We briefly looked at both for our honeymoon but stopped the second we looked at airfare. I have a few friends in Australia I would like to visit and both countries seem fascinating.

    Japan is another strong contender.

Europe is great but I'd rather do it in smaller trips than a few months. After a while you get sort of tired of yet another church or castle!

  • I would definitely go to Europe and visit as many countries as I could in 3 months.
    Anniversary
  • I would probably do the whole Europe backpacking thing, but part of me says NEW ZEALAND NEW ZEALAND!!!!

I studied abroad in new zealand in college for 5 months and LOVE LOVE LOVED it!! I always told myself I had to go back using the same passport (which expires in 2015, so I don't have much more time!) I want to take FI there SO badly, but we decided that we wanted to go somewhere for our honeymoon that neither of us had been. So, another day another dolla!

  • If I could do anything I wanted on an unlimited budget, I would go back to Australia. I spent 6 months there in 2005 and it is absolutely amazing.  If I could go two places, I would choose tahiti.... next choice would be belize.  Im a scuba diver so any of those places would be amazing.  I do wish I could go back and see my friends in australia though.
we are going to costa rica for our honeymoon.

  • europe. i've never been and i want to so badly. we plan on going there on a vacation down the road. we just need to be able to save up more and research it and have more vacation days from work first. we considered it for our honeymoon but we just want to relax and not spend THAT much money.

i also would like to go to japan and china, and australia, and a bunch of other places. i've never been out of the US so even going to canada would be fun.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • My dream vacation would be a month long tour of Australia.  I've always wanted to go there and FI is totally into it too.  It was too pricey for us for our honeymoon so it's looking like a retirement trip at this point but we will most definitely make it there someday.

Africa would be #2 on my list because my grandmother grew up there.  My great-grandparents were missionaries and they lived in Africa for a long time.  I love hearing the stories that my grandmother used to tell and I'd love to see it all first hand.

We'd also like to go to Europe to the countries of our heritage (the Azores and Ireland) and we'll do that someday too.  That's a trip that would be fun to take our future children on though so they can see the places that their parents parents parents grew up :)

I'm obessed with Australia. I plan on moving there for one year. I've been saving for it for a while.

We would go on an around the world cruise. There are some fast paced ones that only take three months, but I think it would be a good start for us to figure out where we would like to spend more time. Travel is super important to both of us. So we have every intention of seeing the world.
  • I would love to see the other side of the world but I hate being in a plane for that long! I guess we could fly to England or France and then just tour from there....

Ideally tho, if I could spend 3 months on a gorgeous beach, swimming with dolphins and doing yoga next to serene and picturesque landscapes, I'd be happy :)
Turks and Caicos would be top of my list. I'd love to just hop from island to island in that area :)

<div>Yeah, we really wanted to go to Japan for our HM, but the airfare alone is about as much as our budget. Yikes!</div>
  • I actually was talking about this with a coworker this am! If I could do any HM, it would be a swing of the deep south. I have been in a few states, but I really want to dive in and see those whoooole deep south. Then I would wanna swing up and go thru TN and KY.

Or, I would want to do the Plains states. We are sorta getting there by going to Iowa, but I would want to spend more time and see it all. I personally am in love with this country and don't see a point to going other places when there is so much to see here! But thats just me.
  • I would love to go to Italy.  Was supposed to go last May, but that fell through :(  FI has no interest in other countries, he doesn't want to be on a plane that long.  IF I could get him to go, (knock him out for the plane ride?) I think he would like to see Africa and do a hunt.  I would like to do a safari.  He is interested in an Alaskan Cruise though.  If we wouldn't have planned a Sept wedding, we would probably be going on one in August.  My parents booked Alaska at the beginning of October and my mom wanted us to go, then we got engaged a couple weeks later.

I would also love to do the Caribbean, but FI isn't a beachy kind of guy.  When I took him to the beach in CA I said "you HAVE to take your boots off!"  His response "I know what sand feels like."

He is great for letting me travel on my own.  He was totally OK with the Italy thing, and if I wanted to go somewhere else he would be ok with it.  He just doesn't ever want me gone more than 8-10 days.  When I left for 2 weeks just a couple months after we started dating, he said "don't ever leave me for that long again."

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I am all about the lush blue waters, glistening sand, and waving fronds of the palm trees.  So I am island hopping for as long as I can.  My FH is all about the water too.  Loves deep sea fishing and being outdoors.
