My Dress! :-)

I finally found my dress!  After what seemed like FOREVER!  It's a Maggie Sottero Suzanne Vidal.  It was discontinued, so I got it at a GREAT price.  The ticket said $1099, but the salon was having a sample sale, and it was reduced to $200.  ALL the dresses on sale are $200, and there was quite a large selection.  I had three that I was choosing from that were all samples.  Of course, because it's a size 12, and I wear a size 6 wedding gown, I have to have it severly altered--I go in today to get an estimate on the price of the alterations.  But I can't believe I actually found a dress that was BELOW our budget estimate!  YAY!

That's AWESOME!  What a great score!!

Where did you find it?  Just wondering so a) other brides can go hop on this great sale, and b) to recommend if the alterations are decent or not.

Some of the dress stores can be very, very finicky as to whether it's worth going there or not.  My experience with brides (on this board and off) has been that private seamstresses are almost always more worthwhile, hands down.  You may end up paying more, but it's really worth it- especially for comfort on the day of.

Oh dear!  I TOTALLY meant to give the boutique name and then obviously forgot!  It's The Bridal Boutique in Milford, DE.  The alterations lady gave me a written estimate of $225-250 to take up the hem and the overskirt (about 4 inches each), take it in several inches (which includes reworking some of the lace and beading), and bustle the train.  That was what I was budgeting and thought would be about right.  Anyone found anything better?

Do you have any referrals or references on the shop and its alterations?

That's more what I was thinking.  I don't want it to be a not so good shop (like the shop where I got my dress), and you end up with a terrible bustle, or uneven hemming, or stuff like that.

My thought is call the shop and ask for references from several brides.  Another thing you could do is call around to other seamstresses to get quotes.

Thanks!   When I told my sister I'd found my dress and it was only $200, she said, "What's wrong with the dress?"  When I told her nothing was (that I could find, mind you!), she then asked, "What's wrong with YOU?"  She asked that because I usually gravitate to the most expensive items.  Now we can spend more on the food!

JayElle, you guys have some GREAT engagement photos! Love your photographer!
