do I need a clutch/purse the day of?

One of my bridesmaids asked me the other day what type of clutch or purse I'm going to be using on my wedding day. I couldn't believe that between finding jewelry, a veil, a hairpiece, shoes, etc., a clutch or purse hadn't even crossed my mind! But the more I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if I'll even need one. I certainly don't plan to carry it around all day, and our reception site has a changing area for the bridal party which is kind of where I was planning on leaving anything I do have with me. I'll probably hand my cell phone off to my mom or dad that morning. I won't be paying for anything that day, so I won't need my wallet. I'll make sure FI has our checkbook for any vendors that he and I are responsible for paying that day. The only thing I can really think of "needing" that day is make-up for touch-ups, but I can leave that in the changing room as that's probably where I would go touch-up anyway. Is there anything I'm not thinking of? Did any of you find it convienent to have a purse with you on the day of? I just don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need to, and I don't currently have any purses that are very "bridal" looking.

Re: do I need a clutch/purse the day of?

  • yeah, I was thinking if I do get one, I'd go with an eggplant/plum colored one (my girls are wearing this color, and I'm wearing plum colored shoes). I'd never use a white/ivory one again. I'm too messy, it'd probably end up with wine or spaghetti sauce on it an hour into the reception, anyway!
  • I found one that is super cute and vintage on Etsy for like $15. It's ivory and I might never use it again but I love it.

I looked for a coloured one that I could use again but couldn't find anything I loved. I plan to keep my cell phone, debit card, lipgloss, etc in it and my DOC will be in charge of making sure it's kept track of throughout the day.

  • I used my mom's wedding purse which was my "something borrowed". And.... It stayed locked in the bridal suite all night! I didn't use it for anything other than photos. If you have a way to hold your phone and lipstick, and don't need your wallet, I don't see why you need one. I saw some cute inexpensive ones at DSW. GL!

  • You could always ask your friends if they have a clutch you could borrow.  I am pretty lucky and am a purse-a-holic so I already have one I have loaned to a few other people and will be using it at mine.
  • Maybe I'll go check DSW tomorrow - thanks for the suggestion!

I'm a pretty big purse-a-holic, too, but I just realized that everything I have that is clutch/formal is in black! I'll also check with my mom/sister/bridesmaids to see if anyone has something I can borrow.
  • My wedding is at my home, so I have no need for one. But if I were having my wedding anywhere else, I'd have a little clutch. I always have to have certain things with me. And I'd be paranoid locking them in a room or leaving someone else in charge of my stuff. You can find a ton of cute ones, try Etsy. :) I'd get one I really like and use it after my wedding as well.
  • Thanks, I wish I had thought of this earlier, I'd totally look for one on etsy (that's where I got my veil and my hair flower). But I'm 14 days out now, and I'm afraid it wouldn't get here on time :( my veil shipped super fast, but my hair flower took almost a month to come in.
