Another "don't like my dress" post...

I know this question has been brought up a million times, but I don't think I like my wedding dress! Of course everything would be fine if I end up wearing it, but I feel like I made a rushed decision. For one, I bought the dress during a trunk show, there were numerous financial incentives to order that day, and as I live in a rural area I had traveled several hours to try on dresses. Totally my fault but now I'm not sure what to do! Both are beautiful, but my original dress just doesn't feel "right".

And this is the kind of skirt I was originally looking for (shop didn't carry any like it):

Does anyone have experience in selling their wedding dress on one of the pre-owned sites? I guess my biggest fear is having the cost of TWO dresses if I'm not able to sell the original.  Thanks for any advice you might have!

    I would make sure you can find your dream dress before you sell the one you have! And make sure they can order it with enough time! The worst thing would to be stuck with out any dress!

    Don't sell your dress yet.  Try on more dresses.  See if you can find dresses with the bottom that you like, and try them on.  You may find that you don't like the look of that skirt on your body type.  I found that things I liked on the models didn't look good on me and vice versa.  Some people don't try on a dress and think "OMG this is the one."  Sometimes you have to try on a bunch to realize that one you tried on 3 stores ago was the best one.  If you try on a dress that you absolutely love, then think about selling your original dress.  GL

    I didn't love my dress, mostly because of poor fitting thanks to an incompetent seamstress, and I totally regret it.  I bought it because we had a short engagement and I had financial incentives too.  If you can splurge, I'd get the dress of your dreams.  However, I decided the money and short time made that impossible for me.

    FWIW, I like the Maggie gown much, much, much better.

    You're at the point where you have to make a decision because your wedding date is getting close.  

    From the look of the second dress, you should definitely try on something like that because it has a lot of volume and can make you look short.

    Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to be in Detroit with FI next week for Christmas, so I think I am going to try on both dresses while I am there. Maybe I've just forgotten why I liked the original in the first place, and maybe my "dream dress" isn't even something I would like on myself. I appreciate your help!

    hey there,

    do you have a pic with the first dress on you? I like the first so much better than the second one. I think your dream dress is a really hard dress to wear because it is so frilly. Whenever I see them on a real bride, it just looks too much while the first it has a classic look. You can complete your look with jewelry and then maybe get a nice veil to enhance the look that you are going for. 

    Go with the first dress.

    Personally, I really prefer the first dress (the one you own).  That being said, try on the 2nd one and if you still like it, and can afford it, get it.  Don't buy a second dress unless you know you can afford it, though.  You want to be able to have enough money in the case that you can't sell the original dress.  Also, I think it's probably best to sell the 1st one without any alterations done to it.

    I love the Maggie dress. I am not a fan of the second one. I definitely agree with jagore on how dresses with a lot of pick ups or pouf can make you appear shorter than what you really are esp if you are short to begin with.

    I would keep the one you have. Go ahead and look for other dresses, but definitely think twice about being a second dress bride. Maybe post of pic of you in the dress you already have? That may help you with your decision a bit better once we see it on you.

    I wish I had a pic of me in the dress, but unfortunately the shop would not let us take a picture. It is due to come in at the end of next month. I really appreciate the feedback and the fact that everyone seems to like the maggie better makes me feel a lot better. I agree that the second one may have too much volume, and it's so hard to look at different dresses and not love them (especially with very thin and tall models wearing them!) Thank you all!

    Yeah, that is how most of the dress shops are. And they are with you every step of the way, so you can't even sneak one.

    I might be partial to Maggie & Sottero and Sottero & Midgley dresses bc I was a SM bride, but I honestly absolutely love the first one.

    The first one is beautiful! I agree with all the pp that the second one might be hard to pull off for some figures. When you get the Maggie dress, try it on, I am sure you will remember why you fell in love with it initially. Good luck!

    I also love the first one! I think it's beautiful and very glamorous but still classic. The second one is a little more trendy and doesn't tend to look so good unless you're model-size. At least, that was my experience with that kind of skirt. I would try on your first dress again if you do go shopping again. I think sometimes you just need to put it back on to remind yourself why you picked it. I can't do that with my dress until March, and I know I've felt a bit uneasy in the meantime too.

    I love the maggie b/c it's MY DRESS too!!  so i'm a little biased :)
    I agree with above posts, the skirt you are looking for is quite unique and may/may not look the same on you as it does in pics.  give them both a try before you go pawning off your maggie!  Taking some time away from the dress and retrying it is a good idea.  I know the maggie was never never on my list of dresses to try, but i let one of my BMs pick any dress for me to try 'for fun' and thankfully that was the one.  I know a million brides can relate that the 'dream dress' was not the one they ended up going with b/c it just doesn't look the same in person.
     
    I looked and looked for the maggie used, but had no luck, but it seems like a very popular dress (i've seen a few posts of girls who have it) so you might have some success selling it. 

    hellooo....the maggie has pockets, that's what sold me on it. pockets! so fun!
    Either way, I'm sure you'll look fantastic in whatever you wear!!!
