Rec your face creams

What kind of face moisturizer/cream do you use? Why? does it work?

I have always had acne, but now my skin is getting so dry that it just looks ashy and dull. I have wrinkles around my eyes too.

I'm willing to spend up to like $25 if its going to make look all glowy and dewy but not greasy.

any recs?

Re: Rec your face creams

  • nada. I just use my trusty oil cleanse method at night, and plain ol' water in the morning. (Maybe a little jojoba oil if I need to remove some leftover makeup.)

Before, I used all sorts of different products, and my face was never as clear/healthy as it is now.
  • I already have some tea tree oil. I should just break down and buy some jojoba and castor oils. Hmm.

  • I started using Philosophy's Hope in a Jar oil-free with spf. I needed something that would moisturize without making my acne worse and this has worked well. I really like it. That combined with their Purity cleanser has made a big difference in my skin.

I had been oil cleansing over the winter but it just wasn't working for me once summer came. This is at least partly because of some issues in our bathroom set up.

  • I use THIS moisturizer.  I actually have it as part of THIS skincare set and I LOVE it.  The set lasts over a month and the containers are all plastic and travel well.

I've been using it since May, and my previously ridiculous skin has come under control enough that I've been willing to go without makeup, which I hadn't done in years.
  • I love Mary Kay's TimeWise line. I use their age-fighting moisturizer and their night solution. I like it because it does not have a greasy feel, it's anti-aging, and it doesn't smell like much. I hate moisturizers that smell really strong. You'd have to know someone in your area that sells it, but if not you can usually find someone's website to order from.
  • Ooh, Pirate, I like the looks of that stuff.

I've seriously considered throwing out my (extensive) collection of everything else since using it.  The only thing holding me back is the thought of how much damn money I've spent on everything else.

It would free up a ton of space in my bathroom though.
  • Oil of Olay is probably the best stuff you can get at the drug store.

My skin is fucking gorgeous.  It's dewy, glowy, fresh, and soft as a freshly buttered baby.

I really like Clinique's dramtically different face lotion, I think a bottle is a little over 20 bucks. The next moisturizer I buy is going to be the Skin Smoothing Cream from Dermalogica. I just decided since I love their facials so much I am going to start using their products. I know Ulta has starter kits that should last a couple months for something like 35 bucks? I think they contain at least 5 different products to try.

I think all the face washes and eye creams I use are just free sh!t I get with other purchases :)
  • I do love Dermalogica facials.

So many decisions. Make a big fat purchase for a fancy shmancy skin care line or go au natural with oils.

AATB, do you know if the Meaningful Beauty is ok for acne, though?

  • Oh crap I am not sure of that Jenna.  I've never really had "problem" skin so I guess maybe I'm not the best person to listen to, lol.  Plus since I'm on the pill I rarely, if ever get a zit.

  • jenna- i have sensitive skin that is prone to sporadic breakouts. About 5 months ago I switched over to the Korres line. They are available online and at Sephora.

I use their pomegrante toner, rose serum and pomegrante gel moisturizer. They have heavier moisturizers for drier skins as well. The products are mostly (not totally) natural and really gentle. The combination of the three leaves my skin a lot brighters and soft. When I get the occassional breakout, I treat with either leftover proactive srub or a regular scrub like Loreal 360 and then i dab clean and clear spot treatment on the breakouts.

Korres is pricier for sure but my skin has never looked smoother, brighter or felt softer. Gilt had coupons awhile back. I think the moisturizers go for btw 25-30 and the face serum is 40. It's really worth it in my opinion... it has worked miracles on my skin.

  • and btw- I found that for me- my breakouts had two major causes- dry dry skin and my cell phone. I noticed a lot of my acne was around my right cheek- where my phone is held to my face. I had a facial and the woman suggested sanitizing the front of my phone from time to time. It may not be the best thing for my phone, but I use an alcohol wipe on it every other week. Once I started doing that, the severe batch of acne on my cheek stopped.

Gross.. I know. My skin is just hyper sensitive.

  • Duds, it takes a few weeks for everything to calm down.  Did you break out more?  That's normal.

I usually use a little grapeseed oil if I need to.  When I was using actual face stuff, I was always a big fan of the Clinique Dramatically Different gel.  I found the cream to be too heavy for my oily yet dry skin, but the gel was perfect.

I have extremely dry skin and the only thing that has worked for me are products made by Caudalie (<-- clicky) especially THIS stuff.  It sucks though because they are expensive.  I have heard good things about origins too and I might give that brand a shot.

  • shay- caudalie is great! I use their cabarnet scrub from time to time. It is literally the only thing that actually seems to really fight cellulite. It's crazy. If it were cheaper I would use it all the time.

The OCM sounds so interesting and like, amazing for people that get their right oils and stuff down but it sounds like a realbitch to figure out.  I have absolutely no patience for finding the right balance of which oils are perfect for my skin and legit, I would be raging pissed about having to just wait for breakouts to stop, lol.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Rec your face creams : I noticed a few more zits, but my skin got dry and felt tight(?) and I didn't care for that. I don't think I did enough research on what oils I should use.

Oooh, you probably either used too much castor oil, or you weren't using a moisturizing enough carrier oil.  That sucks.  It can be a biiitch to get the ratios down.

  • I think the idea of putting oil right on my face scares the crap out of me. Do you guys have a good website? I may try it someday... right now my own products are really working but it's itneresting to find out the other options.

  • Jenna- I have acne too and do the oil cleanse method. I use 50% castor, 50% sunflower and drops of tea Tree and it works like a charm. I don't even need to moisturize!

  • I use Purpose facewash and Purpose moisturizing face lotion with SPF 15.  You can get them at Target for $12 all together.   My skin has little to no breakouts and since I switched over to this a few years ago, I have gotten multiple compliments on my skin.   It's very gentle and best for those sensitive skin types.
