I came across this blog post and thought some of you ladies might like this, too. FI and I were actually already planning on getting some flips to film the wedding to save money. I love that I can have it all put together by someone else though. We are going to do this and play the video at our AHR.

Re: Here's a great alternative to the traditional wedding video
Lucky for us FI is extremely talented in the video editing department- he's actually done commericials for companies broadcasted on TV. I can't wait to see what he puts together.

We're getting professional done there, but for our AHR, I think I'm going to "pay" my little sister's friends to run around with our flips and then edit them outselves. Fabulous way to cut down costs! Great find!

[QUOTE]I'm trying to convince my Fiance to use his digital SLR (nikon d90) with HD video capability on a tripod and make that our wedding video,<strong> he doesn't think we need a video</strong> (among many other things)...Brea I vote you open your own editing business and we can all send you our wedding footage to edit! haha.

<div>The funny thing (to me) is that even though we've got video of the proposal, and we're both video professionals, I still think we don't need a wedding video. FI is the one who convinced me to just set up my DVX on a tripod and let it rip during the ceremony. I still wouldn't care if we didn't do it. I just can't see us watching it. But it'll make him happy (and I'm sure the grandparents & family/friends who can't come happy too).</div>

[QUOTE]I have a Flip sized camcorder that I am carrying with me down the aisle. I will just put it in my hand that holds the bouquet and what I get, I get. We are also having a regular videographer, but I thought it would be cool to have video of the walk.

What a cute & clever idea!

We asked a friend with a recorder and tripod to record our ceremony, and while the video is pretty to watch, because it was outside on the beach and we didn't use mics, you can hear almost nothing of the actual ceremony (well, a few things here and there, but not much). I wasn't heartbroken b/c the video was never my priority, and our friends were kind enough to do it for us. But without mics it can be really hard for the recorders to pic up audio (and frankly, it's hard for those in attendance to hear outside, esp. at the beach, let alone a video recorder). It's something we just accepted.
My Bio
Have to say I am not a fan of this editing style either. Having recently edited my best friend's wedding footage as a favor, as well as our own 'love story' for the reception, I've really learned to appreciate the art that comes with crafting a story...and that you have to know what you're doing at the time of filming (eg, you can't have an artistic pan in the video if you didn't know to shoot one). So, as with all things, you kind of get what you pay for. I would be curious to see what could be done if the people holding the cameras had some experience in cinematography.

<div>Oh gosh, I can't even begin to echo how true this is. When I first started learning about video production 8 years ago, that was the first lesson. "Shoot to edit." There is nothing worse than shooting video and not holding a shot for long enough and then when you get it into the editing software, not being able to use it because you can't extend it. You didn't shoot for long enough so it's gone, forever.</div><div>
</div><div>And, as a professional video editor, I can tell you one of the most annoying things in the world is editing video that was shot by someone who didn't know what they were doing, or at least didn't consider the editing process when shooting.</div><div>
</div><div>Big headaches.</div>

[QUOTE]I think it's decided then! Brea will do all the edits for those of us not hiring a professional camera person and put together highlight reels. Everyone agree?
