Suggestions please? Bride in desperate need!

Due to some recent news that a family member has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and most likely not be able to attend our wedding - we are considering doing two.

So we would keep out plans for the June wedding but set up a small (40 people - family and BP only) ceremony (maybe not official) on Dec 17 (yes, 6 weeks away).

We live in the Chicago area and have already booked a country club reception.  I want to do something different than that for this ceremony.  These people will be attending 2 of our "weddings" in 6 months so I want to make them different memories.   Any creative suggestions?  Whirleyball? Chopping Block?

Truthfully, I would have your wedding in December and just have a party in June. I feel like it would be so confusing to have 2 weddings. Guests will understand why you changed your plans. So I would plan a wedding for December with the ceremony and then a small reception (including the traditional wedding reception stuff) afterand then just do a big party at 6 months tp celebrate with lots of people.

I am sorry about your family member.

Yea - that is what we are going to do.  My Dad needs to be a part of all the traditions of a regular wedding.

So we found a banquet hall that can do our small wedding in 6 weeks - but I don't even have a dress yet!  I have all my vendors booked for June and will be seeing if at least the photog/DJ can do this one too.

    Any advice/suggestions are welcome.

As far as dresses go--try JCrew/White House Black Market/The Limited/Ann Taylor. They all have wedding lines. Or, some bridal stores have dresses you can buy off the rack and then you should be able to find someone to alter if necessary in the next couple of weeks?

What other suggestions do you need? I'm sure lots of ladies would be willing to help!

So sorry to hear about your dad :(

Thank.  I dont even know at this point.  I am just going to have BM wear a black dress of any kind.  guys in a suit and I'll get matching shirts.

I think the banquet hall does the centerpieces.  I am waiting to hear from my photog is they are available....

    anything else I am missing?

I think BM's wearing black dresses is perfect!  You could buy flowers at Costco or go without?

We got all our flowers at Whole foods and Dominicks and spent a few hours making them. It was pretty easy and fun to do with relatives the day before.
You might be able to do a David's Bridal dress in that amount of time. My dress came in 2 weeks after I ordered it and I'm sure they would rush the alterations if you needed it. Otherwise, you can probably find something off the rack somewhere.

Sorry to hear about your dad's illness. I can't imagine how hard that must be. We're here if you need more ideas or to talk.

I am also very sorry to hear about your dad. Been there. I just had an amazing experience at David's Bridal in Vernon Hills. My dress is taking 16 weeks to get in, but they have a lot of dresses that you can walk out with that day!
