Is a videographer worth it?

A lot of budget wedding advice I've gotten is to not hire a videographer. Up until now I was planning on just having a stationary camera at the ceremony and if someone is willing to tote it around at the reception great! (I would never ask anyone too though) but now I'm not sure. My wedding is only 5 weeks away so it may be too late anyway but does anything think a videographer is really worth it? Or are photos enough?

My FI and I just had this discussion about the cost of a videographer.  We decided it was not worth the cost.  My parents have been married for over thirty years and they have never rewatched their wedding video (but they've gone back and looked at all the pictures!).  I like the idea of having a recorder set up on a stand off to the side to record the vows, rings, the kiss, etc.  It would be better to have at least something so you don't regret having nothing at all (aside from pictures)!

ABSOLUTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it's expensive but it's what you'll have as a living memory of your day. Lots of my friends and family didn't think it was worth it ... until they saw the highlights video that our videographer did. I REALLY encourage you to take a second look at it. Check out their website - www.rystardigital.com then click on "Sample Work" (we're the second video ;) ) Good luck!

It's hard to justify in the budget pre-wedding, but post wedding you will be glad you did! It's wonderful to relive your day in photos, but to be able to hear things like your vows is really special!! There are a lot of options that videographers offer so even if you can budget for ceremony only coverage I'd recommend it! Best of luck!

Videographer is worth it 110%.  I would definitely recommend visiting some websites to get a feel for what style you might like.

Our videographer is: www.visualitiesvideography.com .  There is no way our friends/family could put together a video like this from a stationary camera.  Of course, it's personal preference, but I am already looking forward to "re-living" the big day and getting to see little details that I may have missed or forgotten in the hustle and bustle of the day.

    Good luck in your decision!

This is an age old question.  My thoughts...are you and your hubby really going to watch your video over and over.  Well probably not.  BUT, if you had a video from your grandparent's wedding would you watch it?  More than likely that answer is YES!  I know I would LOVE to be able to see my grandparents and even parents weddings on film.  That would be amazing.  So it is more of a long term investment.  If you can make it work, even on the smallest of levels I would say Try!  I think you will be thankful you did!

Video is definitely worth it!! There is nothing like hearing and seeing the actual events of the day. If you don't feel you can afford a professional videographer, have you considered one of the Flip camera companies? FI and I are thinking of using this company called Storymix Media.( http://weddings.storymixmedia.com/ ) Their website isn't the greatest looking, but the sample videos get me every time!! Cry Smile

There's something really special about videography, it's just like photographers though, find someone creative.. a quick three minute video for facebook of the day is awesome!!  Contact me and I will find one that one of my friends shot and send you the link.  Of course, if you are budget, budget find a creative student.
