Dress Shopping in Minneapolis/St. Paul Area Suggestions

Hello! I am from Sioux Falls, SD but will be heading to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to do some wedding dress shopping July 8-10. Since I am not from that area, I really don't know where to start. Do any of you have suggestions as where to go and where to avoid? Do some shops take walk-ins or should I be making appointments? I would like to spend under $1000, if that helps narrow it down. Any advice is helpful! Thank you!

I actually ended up getting my dress in Sioux Falls - at I Do Too, so I don't have any personal experience here.  But popular places are:

    The Wedding Shoppe
    Dena Marie
    Heartstings Bridal
    Rush's Bridal
    Angeliques

I would probably go ahead and make appts, places get pretty busy on the weekends.

There have been mixed reviews about the Wedding Shoppe - some people have had great experiences but some have had really bad experiences.  It seems that brides have better luch there than bridesmaids...
I did BM dress shopping at Dena Marie and they were fine.  Just a note, some places are not open on Sundays, but Dena Marie's was.

I went to Brides on France.  The one in Richfield has beautiful consignment dresses. I believe they have new dresses too.  The one in Edina is only new. I wouldn't recommend the one in Edina. Its tiny. they sales ladies aren't friendly. The dressing rooms barely fit me and the dress and you can't take pictures.  The one in Richfield was amazing! The store owner actually helped me, and I had a wonderful experience.

I had a fantastic experience with both my dress and bridesmaids dresses at the Wedding Shoppe! I was almost terrifed to go there from some of the reviews I had heard but every single time I was there the people were friendly and I had no problems!

    The Bridal Center in Plymouth
David's Bridal - all over the place
    Glenrose Bridal - Plymouth
    Macy's - Downtown
Napier - St. Paul (I think it is still open..?)
Rush's Bridal - Minneapolis (Again, not sure if it is still open)
The Little Bridal Shop - Rogers
Our Shop - Stillwater (I got my dress here)
    Raffine Bridal - Stillwater

I agree that you should make appointments. I would allow at least 2 hours at each shop. And most of the shops are not open on Sundays like was said above but if you make an appointment a lot of them will open up for you. Some shops I recall had Sunday specials where you could pay a fee and they would have champagne and stuff like that...

I got my dress from the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul also. Had a great experience and my mother and two bridesmaids that came with also enjoyed their time there! I would really reccomend checking it out. You do have to make an appointment before you head in! :)

I would suggest Bridal Accents Couture in Savage as that was by far my favorite place to shop- but I am unsure of their price range???

I got mine at Macy's Bridal Salon (Downtown Minneapolis) Their dresses start at $1,000. So if that is your cap I would only make an apt if they are having a trunk show or something. Mine was just over their  starting range so you can get something great for their min.

I was planning on going to Rush after Macy's but I found my dress right away at Macy's :)

I would also recommend stoping at Mestad's bridal either in St. Cloud or Rochester. We went there for our BM's dresses and I went shopping with a girlfriend there for her dress and it was AWESOME! Again they were also on my list to go to after Macy's.

Another suggestion, if you're bridal plus-sized, is The Glass Slipper in Andover.  All of their samples are size 12 or larger, so you'll be able to try on everything in the store.  They're a small shop, but they've gotten a lot more inventory since the spring.

Wherever you go, definitely make an appointment (except I believe Brides of France doesn't take appts).  It'll make your life easier.

Two of my sister's are married and they bought their bridesmaids dresses from Rush's and so that's where I went to look and ended up buying my dress from there along with my bridesmaids dresses. However I went home after buying it and saw that the Wedding Shoppe had it for $100 less, luckily Rush's gave me a free rush order on my dress (which normally is about $80). So I would say to check out the Wedding Shoppe and Rush's. My dress was about $700.

I loved Heartstrings in Hopkins.  It was quiet and they let  you walk around and put clips on the dresses you like, then they bring them to you one at a time to try on.  It is one of the only places I went where I felt like I could take my time and it wasn't overwhelming.  I liked to be able to look at the dresses and choose what I wanted to try on and that was really nice there.
