June 2013 Weddings

Inspired!

Hi Ladies,
I'm feeling extremely productive today and I can attribute that to the inspiration I've felt from reading your posts and seeing the progress you all have made. Thank you!

I'm really excited! Today FI and I reserved a block of hotel rooms for our out of town guests. I have also set up my first consultation with both my first choice florist and the event lighting vendor at our venue in two weeks!

Our wedding website is almost finished too. Now I am trying to figure out if I want to send Save the Dates or not... really don't think its necessary, seems more like a growing trend and although I like the idea, am not sure I want to spend the extra $ for more stationary. Maybe I'll just send E-Save the Dates through email... does that seem like a good option? I found a website that has several free downloadable templates to create my own Save the Dates and either print them or send them electronically.

Is anyone else going this route?

Re: Inspired!

  • We did not want to waste the money on printing STD or postage.  We sent  a one year email to OOT guests.  The ones in town already know the date.
  • I don't really think STDs are so necessary unless you have ALOT of people travelling. Just my .02

As an OOT guest to other weddings, I think its perfectly fine to send the info via e-mail.

  • If most of your guests are in town I would skip Save the Dates. We have over 80% of guests trraveling across the country so we are going to do them to give everyone time to save and plan.

  • We are doing save the dates for a few reasons. Even though majority of our guests are local to us, were having the wedding a little over an hour away in Monterey, CA where hotels book up way in advance. Since its such a popular tourit destinations none of the hotels will do room blocks without over 50% deposit on however many rooms reserved being put down so its not feasible to do that since there are so many hotel options for people to chose from. And doing the room blocks doesnt even give a discounted rate :(. And we want to be able to share some engagmenet photos along with our website address on them.

  • Congrats on all the checks! We are doing Save the Dates mostly because we are getting married early in June, and it seems to be a pretty busy time for our family/friends. So we kind of want to spread the word as early as we can.

We are not doing save the dates. We are gonna put maps with invites.

  • I think Save the Dates are a cute new trend, but don't feel pressured to do them! People have been having weddings a long time without them. As long as you let people know that you plan to have a wedding and when, they probably don't need a card. Funny, but in all the weddings I've been to, I've never even gotten a save-the-date! We aren't doing them for two reasons; one, we'd rather spend that money on something else for our renewal; two, the family and friends we are inviting are people we speak to often enough that it hasn't been a problem to just tell them.

Congrats on all you've gotten done!!
