Block Island

I have never been to Block Island and thinking about going on Friday. And staying the night around the area since I am going to the Pow Sox game on Saturday.  I was planning on doing some sightseeing on Saturday afternoon before the game. Any recommendations on where I should get the ferry, Judith Point or Newport for the best sightseeing off the island?

HI there! I am heading to Block Island on Saturday so I have been researching it myself.  Definately take the ferry out of Point Judith, if you leave from Newport, it is a 2 hours ride, but is only 55 min form Point Judith.  I would also recommend taking the slow ferry instead of the fast (the fast is double the price and only saves you 20 minutes).  We are renting scooters as soon as we get there to zip around the island a bit ( you can also rent single or double bicycles).  After that, we are planning to spend the afternoon at Ballard's for the beach, band, volleyball, etc.

Good look with your trip...Ims ure you will have a blast!!

I suggest taking the fast ferry from Pt. Judith-- its only a few dollars more and you get there in 35 minutes-- if you want to sight see-- you should go from Newport-- but it will take almost 2 hours to get there.

Instead I suggest taking Ocean Rd. to get to Pt. Judith-- which just means getting off an earlier exit-- -drive past the ocean on one side and huge gorgeous houses on the other----

While on block island, I would steer clear of Ballards-- its mostly like a spring break-- (of course if thats what your looking for, go ahead) .. walk around the "town" a bit (you can do that in about an hour) and head to Scotch beach (my personal fav) its a private beach so you can bring any food/alch. you want--- or mansion beach is also popular.

then on the way home you can always take a ride to Newport-- or stop in Wickford-- downtown wickford is really cute.
