XP: Tell me about printing on linen paper...

...copied from DIY board thread...

I recently had my invitations designed and now I'm struggling to find a good way to print them.  We went to a generic office supply store to have them printed and let's just say the product was less than desirable.  Also, they didn't have linen paper which I would like for the invitations.  We are going to try a local specialty print shop but right now their printer is being serviced.  We will wait for them to be functioning again but with specialty linen paper I know it can be more expensive to have a professional shop do it.

So after all of that, here is my question:  Have any of you printed on linen paper from a home printer?  Our printer sucks and if I did this I was considering buying the HP 2050 All in one Inkjet.  With buying that plus an extra ink cartridge and all of the paper (80# linen) from paper and more it will be about $140 bucks, which I'm starting to think will be cheaper then having a pro do it.  What are your experiences with doing this?  Did it come out OK on an inkjet?  Was their bleeding or anything?  Any tips?  Also, how well did 80# go through your printer?

TIA!

  • I think you are going to need a laser jet to print on linen paper.  Otherwise the ink will run.

  • My degree is in graphic design, and your typical home printer probably won't be able to handle linen paper.  You could give it a try with ONE, but you should test it first.  It's probably worth your while to just have the shop print them.

Or, you could use a different paper.  Is linen paper that important?
