church transfer

we're getting married in a different diocese that we live in. so our local priest did all our paperwork and said he needs to send it to the archdiocese and then they send it to the church we are getting married in. for anyone who has done this i'm wondering how long the process will take.

we've certainly met with the priest that is marrying us but am excited to sit down and plan the details but he said we need to wait until he gets the paperwork and then we can make an appointment to discuss details.

We got engaged late Dec 2010,  he lived out of state, I lived in the same state, but a different diocese than which we were getting married in, and we talked to the priest in person exactly 6 months from the date we wanted to get married (talked to him a couple weeks before that on the phone).   We didn't have to wait for the paperwork to be completed or anything.  But every diocese/situation is different.

We were in the same situation. We got married in our hometown in OH, but live in GA. The priest here did all of our marriage prep and paperwork. We had to fill it out and he mailed it to the priest that was marrying us. It didn't take very long at all, I would say less than 2 weeks from the time he sent it to the time our priest received it and made sure he had everything he need.

And like pp said, each dioceses has different requirements and you often have to fullfill the dioceses requirements where you complete your pre-cana as well as those of where the wedding will actually take place. For example, the dioceses where we currently live didn't require Engaged Encounter, but our home dioceses did, so we had to do it. Thankfully, we were able to find a weekend here in GA so we didn't have to travel home for it.

thanks ladies. both us and our local priest have spoken to the priest that's marrying us and we've set a date and time a while ago. just excited to have a more official meeting so we can talk details of the day : ) our local priest told us if we don't get a call from the priest that's marrying us in a month then to contact him to see if he got the paperwork yet.

You have plenty of time. We're in May and we did our pre-cana day and all we need are baptismal certificates and then we are done. The people at our local church said told us we're fine and not to worry. It really depends on you getting in all your requirements - FOCCUS, pre-cana, baptismal certificates. The compiling it and sending it to the other diocese seems to be trivial.

I think it only took a couple weeks when I did it.  The deacon said it had to go from my church, to Archdiocese of Denver, to Diocese of Toledo, then to the church I was getting married in in Ohio.

The Deacon sent it out June 15th-ish.  I talked to the priest sometime in July and he said he received everything just fine.  The paperwork transfer seemed like a non-issue.
