**aggiebug**

I think I remember reading you're in Vet school.  I'm just finishing my 2nd year at Purdue.  Are you at A&M?

Finals are killing me.  Chalk it up to being the year of the -ologies.  What year are you?

Re: **aggiebug**

  • Hi !! so good to see another vet student or so around here :)  there are quite a few med students but not so many vet students ( I guess it fits since there aren't that many vet students period)

I am a 3rd year for another 3 days then I am headed to clinics!  I am soooooooo ready to be done with the class work. Thankfully I only have 2 finals this semester, thank goodness I don't think I could handle more this time...

Oh the -ologies!  good luck with your finals you can make it through.

What kind of practice do you want to go into?

I actually know the 3rd yr Hill's rep there, I am the rep down here @ A&M so we met at training.

  • Oh, Mark, yeah, I know him.  I'm so jealous of clinics!  I keep chanting "one more year, one more year.  It will all be worth it when I get to clinics in one more year."

I'm probably going to end up in small animal general practice and will *hopefully* relocate to Phoenix after graduation.  We "track" here so I'll take more specialized small animal medicine courses next year as opposed to all of the intricate cow/horse/pig courses available.

    Where do your interests lie?
  • yeah I didn't want to say his whole name on the boards :)

we track here too.  We all take small animal and large animal med courses, but we take atleast 14hrs of elective courses of our own choosing.

OH I remember that chant.  My class actually sang a long to "livin' on a Prayer"  right before our last final last year.  "oh oh we're half way there..."  It was awesome :)

I am tracking large animal, but I am marrying an aerospace enginerd so I will be stuck around big cities for the rest of my life meaning I will most likely end up in a mixed animal practice.

I also like epidemiology/public health  and emergency response so I am thinking of getting my MPH after I have been out a while... definitely not right away though.  I need a break from school!

    Whats in Phoenix?

ps I like your reception venue :) I really wanted to do it in the zone club here at our stadium but it was ridiculously over priced and you were very limited in what you could do

  • I have family in Phoneix, but really, I hate snow.  I can't wait to get away from winters!  It's a large metro that was the fastest growing city in the US up until the last year or so.  The new immigration laws might make me reconsider.

Really, I'm just looking for someplace warm where I can live and work in  a decent sized city.  I grew up in the country, on a horse farm no less.  I will always treasure the memories and will love visitng, but I just don't see that being my life.  At least not for the next few years.

I definitely know what you mean about taking time before an MPH.  I keep thinking an MBA would be good since I want to own my own clinic eventually, but I don't know that I can motivate myself to do it!

"Enginerd" I love it!!  FI wants to go into Physics.  We made the deal that he'll support me while I finish school and then it will be his turn.  He keeps saying he'll pursue a doctorate in physics so he can teach at the collegiate level.   I just think he wants to make sure our Christmas cards don't come addressed to Dr. & Mr. Reed, lol!
  • ha I can't blame you about the snow, although I am totally willing to head north!  the summer are just as unbearable as the snow for me.

You can get a business certificate at Purdue can't you?  do they offer a DVM/MBA program?  we do here so there are a few people each class that go get their MBA after their 2nd year and then come back and finish their DVM with the class below.  Kinda nice but I could never do it.  I do with we had the business certification program though.

yeah I actually coined the term "enginerd" for my dad but it just fits so perfectly now they are all enginerds to me.  FI is not such a fan of the name (he is also not as nerdy as most) but he lets me call him that anyway.  Physics is definitely just as nerdy.  That is cool about teaching at the collegiate level.  Do you think you would ever go into academia- I keep thinking Texas A&M sounds like a great fit for the both of you :)

I think I am more bothered by the Dr and Mr than FI is haha, but I think I am going to try and be a Mrs socially. I guess I don't have total say in that but I love that I am going to be a Dr but that is not all I am-if that makes sense.

  • Purdue offers a "mini-MBA" program with AAHA.  It's run out of Kranert school of business on the main campus.  It's a set of 4 long weekends that I could jump into this fall, but I'm not sure I want to add on more to my already hectic 3rd year curriculum.

I don't think I could handle academia.  I love the people I get to work with at school, but don't see myself in their shoes. The internship/residency path doesn't seem like something I'm interested in.  I really just look forward to getting out there and back to work!  (Making a normal wage will be nice, too!)
  • totally get ya! I am sooo ready to be OUT and making money and move on with my life. :)
