What would you do??

I'm extremely new to this board, so I apologize if I am repeating a previosu question or anything of the sort.
I'm not yet engaged, but my boyfriend has to put in his vacation for all of 2011 at the end of next week. That means that we have to decide on some kind of time window for a wedding. (Yes, he knows we are getting married lol, he brought it up!!) We have decided on sometime between August and October. (He has to wait and see what's open.)
Any brides go on a honeymoon durring this time that can share where they went, estimated cost, how long you were there, etc???
We are pretty much open to any kind of ideas!!
Thanks :)

Re: What would you do??

  • I think you're doing this backward. First, think of a budget. If you've got $2000 total to work with for flights, hotels and all expenses, then you're going to be looking at a whole different universe of options than if you've got $10k to drop on flights alone.

Then start talking generally. Do you want to lie on a beach somewhere? Explore historical sites? Backpack? Stay in luxury? In the US or abroad? Once you have basic parameters (like you want a beach with good nightlife, somewhere in the US or Caribbean where it's going to be warm and an all-inclusive resort), then start asking for suggestions. Right now your options just too broad to really get any good advice.
  • It wasn't our HM (actually where we got engaged), but FI and I just got back from Hawaii about a month ago.  If it's in your budget, Hawaii is always a great option because it has pretty consistant year-round temps, so it doesn't matter what time of year you go.  Not to mention that it's absolutely beautiful and a very popular HM destination.

For us, we went for a week to the Big Island.  Airfare is a little more for the BI than Oahu, but our total flight, hotel and rental car was about $1700.  Then you have to figure in your spending money too.  Plan for any excursion (mostly anywhere, not just HI) to be between $100-$200pp.  Food is also a pretty big expense, you can eat cheaply if you want to, but I'd recommend a few nice dinners, especially since it's your HM.

Other than that, you kind of need to have a set budget in mind for your HM only.  You can go on tripadvisor.com to help plan other locations that you might want to check out too.
