XP Two seemingly impossible tasks.. any takers?

I'd like to know if anyone around us was able to pull off feeding people for under $10 per person. Due to a huge medical emergency that used not only our savings funds plus some wedding money, our already budget wedding was cut into further.. alot further.. leaving us with about $4,000 for a 120 person wedding. That is only family and about 5 friends, that we are both close to. We both have huge families and they are very tight knit. I was thinking of self catering.. but if I can avoid it, I'd like to. It is going to be hard enough to peel myself away from my dream ceremony and reception cites, but I have to, so any Ideas for a cheap, but beautiful place to hold both would be amazing. We are in the Lorain/Elyria/Amherst area as are 90% of our guests. It is sad that we had the accident, but honestly, i'm more satisfied with pushing the wedding back from this April, to next april '11, and having a healthy and living FI. A lot of our plans have to be changed drastically, but we are trying to still get everyone together, and celebrate that we are married and still try to keep it a bit more traditional ad classy. Thanks ahead of time for the help! I'm also going to cross post this with the cleveland board and the NE OH board. Thanks again!

Wow, that's a tough one. I'm sorry you have to go thru all of this, but people are what's important, right? A wedding is just one day compared to the rest of your lives together.

As for inexpensive weddings, I'm sure you'll find a way. Maybe instead of a full-blown dinner menu, go with light appetizers/desserts? Can you have it on a Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday? Skip alcohol entirely or if you *must* have something, just do beer and/or wine? Skip the limo. Skip favors. Do minimal decorations. Check out Bridal Room in Elyria for dresses. They have some reasonably priced ones. Also consider consignment shops -- I bought my dress at Julianne's Bridal Outlet in Olmsted Falls.

Also, no idea on overall pricing, but maybe check out the Puskas Outdoor Party Center in Lorain:
    http://www.puskasfamilyflowers.com/PartyCenter.html
Since they have an outdoor (pavilion) facility, maybe you could make your reception into a nicer picnic-style sort of party.

If Ruby's Hall in Grafton would be an option location-wise, here's the link:
    http://www.rubyshall.com/
It's supposed to be reasonably priced and I'm pretty sure you can supply your own caterer OR use theirs.

The Knights of Columbus and VFW halls (in Avon & Avon Lake respectively) are BYOB/BYOCaterer sites, if that helps.

Regular halls like Deluca's are going to run you at least $25-ish pp without alcohol.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the information! I'll be making a few calls and I will keep posting about how things go. I just got a response e-mail from someone who told me there is a massive minimum amount for food and beverages and she is "very sorry that it seems my budget is just not right for this hall" urgh... lol I also got my sisters prom dress from A bridal room, and the ladies were very friendly. I'll check them out too. Thanks alot!

Definitely enlist the help of family on this one.  You COULD find a community center to rent inexpensively and then have a "pot luck".   I helped a friend do her wedding at a local VFW hall on the eastside of Cleveland and we stayed under $5000.  We even made some of the food ourselves...we had sliced roast beef and gravy, lemon chicken, pasta, vegetables, etc.  What many people don't realize is many "inexpensive" caterers use Sam's Club prepared foods, anyway.  So, if you can get some help, you CAN do it yourelf.

HTH....your story definitely has a happy ending!

I'm sorry to hear about the emergency and I hope evertyhing turns out alright.  As mentioned by pp a Friday night or Sunday wedding may be cheaper, and a lunch will definitely be cheaper than a dinner.  You could rent the Sptizer center at Lorain CC and have a hot buffet lunch for $9.95 p/p.
Flinger's Market also caters a dinner buffet for $8.25 p/p so you could have them cater your reception.
I'm sure you'll find something, just takes a lot of researching and phone calls.  Good luck!

ps. We had 100 people on our guest list and did everything for just under $4000, so it's not impossible!

Thank you for the advice and encouragement! Well, the grand total is 122 and I know a few relatives on each side live in Cali, and one on his side aren't even in the US anymore. Knowing that, the actual guest list may be 100. However, again, both families are tight knit so you never know lol. The Saturday is an accident. That is our anniversary, and we wanted to get married on our anniversary this year, but with everything that happened, that is a no go. We are trying to hold onto the date if possible. I also never even thought about the college. lol i'm finishing my nursing degree there lol. Thank you all and I'll take another round of suggestions, make calls tomorrow, and let you all know what happens as it happens!
