Dress Timeline Question

So I have my wedding dress...it's sitting in a garment bag in my front closet...

I am planning on turning the halter top into a sweetheart top and adding roses into the pickups. I need to find a seamstress that can do this for me. I'm planning on checking out someone who everyone seemed to recommend on the locals board.

So my question is what kind of timeline do you girls recommend for dress alterations. As of today I have 200 days left until the big day! I'm a bit of a procrastinator and am curious to when you think I should get cracking on this. I dont want to do it too early in case I drop weight and lose inches but I don't know how far in advance I need to let the seamstress know. How close to the day am I able to resize my dress or add final touches?

Any help is appreciated!

It really depends on how much work you will have done and how busy the seamstress is. If it's a lot of altering and taking in, the time will be a lot longer. Also, consider if weddings are at a high in your area as that would make the businesses around busier. I would go and ask the seamstress you are interested in of the deadline she can give you.

I agree with Kara.  The seamstress you choose will be able to help you out the most.  So I'd suggest finding a seamtress ASAP and then go from there.

I am also getting married in June and my first dress fitting is at the end of March.  But all they will need to do is bring it in at the waist a little bit.

I got my dress (second dress, long story) like a month before the wedding, and it had to be taken in two sizes, and I didn't have any problem.  That being said, it was in WA, and I got married in December, so it wasn't exactly "wedding season" so they weren't really busy.  However, if you're getting married in June, I would say go ahead and talk to the seamstress now.  Worst case, she'll tell you it's too soon.  Best case, You're not freaking out about your dress not being done in time because it's been done for weeks or even months.. KWIM?

You should definitely start looking now, if not at least by the end of January.  Even if your seamstress tells you that she wants to wait to start alterations because you may change size, at least you'll have found her and will know how much time she needs.

Agree with the others to start looking soon, and ask different seamstresses when they would want you to start.  I would definitely err on the side of caution with changing the neckline because if they mess up or you don't like it then you have time to have it fixed.  I would say probably about 3 months out they would start, but you definitely want to start looking now for someone who does it and get prices.

Thanks girls. I will have to call her as soon as I can then. I just wasn't sure if there were specific times that dresses had to be done or fitted by. I guess I'm just nervous and I'm not really sure why. Thanks again!
