I actually did a mock-up of our cake this week, topper & all. I wanted to see how the black "spray paint" food coloring worked-- Turns out it turns purple :S But I really like our topper. & it looks like I might need a professional to do the actual piece... But it was tasty, and it started with a batch of rice krispy treats, which were delish

(and, after all, that's all we wanted in the first place.. lol)

Very cool cakes!

We don't have a tiered cake, but rather, we're having a friend (pastry chef) bake cakes (all the same kind) and we're puting them on our vintage cake plates (see bio under DIY). Our cakes are going to be a traditional finnish wedding cake, which is essentially a wildberry shortcake with LOTS Of whipped cream and no other decoration (save for a cake topper).

Before we decided on a finnish wedding cake, we were very inspired by these cakes below:

Something like this (maybe) ... butter cream icing (chocolate icing, though) but no flowers. FI is more concerned with the flavor (chocolate chocolate mousse) ....

or this, if it can be done with butter cream icing ...

We are going to do our cake exactly as my grandma explained her wedding cake from 57 years ago. She told us she just had a simple betty crocker cookbook recipe cake with regular frosting on it. She must have done something right. She didn't need an expensive or fancy cake to make it last all these years.....
