Mosquitos?

Anyone think they'll have issues with these little pests?  Our wedding is in June, and there's a pond, so I'm wondering if there will be a problem.  Anyone have any ideas to repel mosquitos that doesn't involve tons of citronella or spraying the guests down in OFF?

Re: Mosquitos?

  • I am providing insect repellant wipes for my guests
  • You just hit the nail on the head as to why i wanted an indoor reception after my outdoor ceremony.  I'm what you call a Mosquito magnet! They'll literally land on FI decide he's not gonna taste good enough and then they smell me and thel all come running! FI jokes that i'm his walking mosquito repellant because they all just swarm to me and leave him alone... I'll cover myself in off and get 3 bug bites... he has nothing on and doesn't get one!

can you set up a bunch of tiki torches or have one of those off lanterns that have like a 10 foot radius set up at each table...
  • We are having our wedding at FI's parents home, that is on a few acres. We will be putting something in the grass a few days before and fogging them out the evening before. Living in MN it is a HUGE summer issue.

There will also be a basket with repelent and wipes.

  • I am facing the same dilemma and have some additional suggestions...they have a natural citronella plants which I have in pots around my patio at home and keeps the mosquitoes quite nicely and I will likely place them around the perimeter of the tent.  In addition I will have essential oils available that repels mosquitoes which are not only natural and better for our guests but smell quite nice and the guests can pick a scent they enjoy (http://www.experience-essential-oils.com/natural-mosquito-repellent.html) Additionally, the mosquito repellent Off fans that guests can clip on or can be set on various tables (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Off-Mosquito-Repellent-Clip-On-Fan-4-Piece-Set/16200187)  hidden within the decorations of course! This is a very serious concern of my future mother-in-law so I am doing it all!  Good luck!

I'm using Cutter yard spray - my mother uses it at her house (lives right on the river) an mosquitos are a horrendous problem there - she used one bottle of the stuff before a cook out one year and it worked WONDERS!!!  So I'll be using it at my venue.  You just connect the bottle to the hose and spray.  I also have citronella tea lights for the lanterns.
  • I've been assured we won't have this issue, as our wedding is in the winter. But it was still something I was concerned about.

  • This might be a little late, but we are going to have the same problem as we are having an outdoor summer wedding in Alaska where mosquitoes are rampant.  I am planning on making REAL citronella candles and just putting them everywhere.  (Apparently store-bought candles only have the scent of citronella instead of the oil in them.)  I'm not into arts and crafts, but because they will serve a dual purpose I decided to make them myself.

And if all else fails, the guests are getting bug spray in their welcome bags.  :)
  • Thanks ladies for responding!  My wedding was about six weeks ago, and we had zero issues, yay!
