Very excited, and need to share..

Hello, all! I'm fairly new here, but I have some really exciting news, and I have a serious need to share it with SOMEONE!  So how about a group of strangers. :)

My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years now. I finished college the end of July, and in the middle of August, we decided we were going to get married!!! But, he wants to do it properly, so he wants to ask my dad permission first. The only problem, my parents live 800 miles away. We already had a trip planned to go see them, and we're leaving next week! I know he plans on asking them sometime while we're there...

I also know that he ordered my ring (we picked it out together) and it should be here tomorrow!!! I am so incredibly excited. I'm thinking he might propose to me while we're at my parents, but I'm not sure. I know he was anxious to get the ring before the trip, though.

It's just killing me because I can't really tell anyone right now. Most of my friends talk to my mom, and I'm afraid they'd let it slip or they'd say something on facebook. He has told his mom our ideas and plans, but I don't want to say anything to my mom yet, so that makes it really hard, since my mom and I are super close. I just can't wait until we can make it public official!

  • Congrats! BTW, make sure when you do get engaged and start telling people, mention to them to keep it off FB so you can tell other friends when you get home.
We made that mistake and my sister found out before I could call her. :-/
  • Thank you guys! :)

cwaggoner - That's one of my big fears, as well! I told the boyfriend he's going to have to call his dad and grandfather to tell them the news (and his mom, once it's official) since they have no clue. He didn't understand why! I told him look, do you REALLY want them to find out when we post it on facebook? He realized that it wasn't quite in good manners to not tell direct family, thankfully. :) I'm sorry your sister found out through facebook, though... Was she upset?

Great suggestion. We avoided announcing it on FB until we told our family. FI was very insistant on that. Which I completely respected.
