Thoughts on slideshows at reception?

Does anyone do this anymore? I saw it a lot a few years ago, but I haven't seen it at any weddings I've been to lately. I'd rather not create one, but my FI and FIL want one. Sometimes they seem too long or unnecessary.

Thoughts?

  • I think at the reception, it's a bit much, unless maybe it's something on silently in a cocktail hour area or something. I've heard of people doing them at rehearsal dinners, and like that. I don't think anyone has any of this planned, though.

  • My sister mentioned it. FI & I aren't able to put out the expense of it. We might buy a cheap digital frame that would run through the night next to the guest book or cards or something.

  • FMIL is insisting on one.  I don't really want to put the time into making it.  I've seen it at the last two (local) weddings I was at.  Since your also from MN it's still common enough around here that I wouldn't worry about what people will think of it.  I think they're cute, as long as they aren't too long.

  • I think they are cute to play silently during cocktail hour.  And/or, you could do a digital frame like one of PPs suggested and loop photos throughout the reception.  I always like looking at pictures of the couple.

</div><div>We aren't having on because it would cost us $600, I LOVE the idea of having a digital frame at the reception. Maybe I will put it by the candy buffet.

  • Our AV is all free with our room rental, and my mom and little brother are putting it together for me - yay one less thing to worry about!  FI has put a strict 5-7 minute max on it though.  We will be showing it just after the speeches, before the thank yous.

  • Our DJ will put together a photo montage for us that will probably take 3 minutes, pics of me as a baby, pics of FI as a baby and then pics of us together played to songs we pick out...it is included in our package....
  • Like PP our photo montage is included with our DJ package. We give them the photos and they'll do the work.

This is what we are doing. I received a digital frame from my sister for a birthday so we are just going to load a bunch of baby pics and couple pics on that.

Between watching the dances and speeches I think there is enough stuff to hold the guests' attention through. I think something playing in the background during cocktail hour is much better.
  • We are doing one. I made it awhile back and we are paying our videographer $100 for her to use her equipment and set it up. She usually charges $300 but since I made and burned it onto a DVD she is just charging us that. It's a short one that's only 2 1/2min. It'll be after the first dance and before speeches.

I am planning on having one during the cocktail hour. We have access to a TV to display it in the cocktail space. We are getting pics of us when we were younger and trough our relationship, but instead of just doing baby pics then gradually getting older, I was planning on mixing them up to have a more interesting take. But also have some songs quietly playing inthe background.

  • we are having one because future father-in-law is very good at making those and insisted on making one. we're including pics of us with as many of the guests as possible. We want our guests to really feel like they took part in helping us grow and/or supporting our relationship...and that we are thankful and want them to be recognized
