Would anyone like to offer some HM suggestions?

So, FI and I are meeting with a travel agent and are hoping to have some destinations in mind when we speak to them. I certainly like to do my research!

We are hoping to do a week at an AI resort. FI seems to lean towards Mexico, but nothing is set in stone. We see are selfs relaxing on the beach and in front of the pool, maybe doing some excursions and activities, it's also safe to say that good food is important as well.

We're looking to spend about $4000, including flights, on the trip. There is some wiggle room, but even under that price is ideal.

Right now we are considering El Dorado Royale, Sun Palace, and Secrets Silversands. Any others I should research?

  • I would also consider Secrets Capri or Secrets Maroma. After having been to a few Secrets properties, I find Silversands to be my least favorite. It is geared more toward adult singles or groups that want an adults only experience. It is also very active, with the staff always trying to get people at the pool to do activities. The beach there is not all that great, either. El Dorado also has a few properties- Royale, Casita Suites, and Maroma. Maroma is one of the best beaches in the world, so that is something to keep in mind as well!

  • My best friend spent her honeymoon at the Moon Palace and said it was amazing!

lol ourselves not are selfs :)

anyway do you have any specifics in mind for day trips? what you'd like and not like? AI food isn't known to be outstanding groumet but if you're thinking mexico stay in cancun or playa del carmen as they have some great restaurants in town (besides it's great to get off of the resort).  there are tons of great resorts there. have you visited tripadvisor?

  • Dh and I went to Sun Palace last Feb.  It was really nice.  You can go to the other Palace resorts in Cancun and partake in food/drink/pool for free.  We checked out two other Palace resorts on our trip, one being on the Isle De Mujeres.  We took the public bus to the ferry.  Once on the island we rented a golf cart to get to the resort.  We had a lot of fun.  There are a lot of excursions you can go on too that the resort will organize for you.  We went to aqua world one day.  We were also going to go to the ruins but I didn't want to sit on a bus for 3 hours there and 3 hours back.
  • Valentin Imperial Maya for sure! It's just outside of Cancun, so you don't feel like your resort is trapped inbetween others- makes you feel like you're the only place there. AND it's closer to a few excursion places, like Xel-Ha and Xplor. Huge pool and a quiet/ swim up pool, plus the beach and some activities on resort round out the experience.

haha, so embarrassing! I was working an overnight shift, so I'm going to blame that on brain fart caused by tiredness.

But yes, I've been stalking TA. I really don't know what I'd like to do for day trips, honestly. I really like museums when I travel, so I know some places have ruins nearby and I always thought that would be interesting. I also would love to go deep sea fishing!

Our travel agent had mentioned that El Dorado runs a promotion where you can get $600 off the price of the hotel where they don't tell you which of the four they booked until 2 weeks before you leave. I'm not sure if I'd be hesitant or not doing it, but saving $600 would be fantastic!

  • my hubby and I are headed to the Royal Playa del Carmen for our honeymoon next month! It's gotten wonderful reviews on TA. It's walking distance to Playa del Carmen so you can walk to nightlife, shopping etc.
  • My fiance and I just booked a week in Jamaica at Couples San Souci...they are offering a deal until Jan.15...it is all-inclusive and adults only....it got good reviews on TA. I have also had a few friends go to St. Lucia and they loved it.
