Latrobe's vs. Tea Room

Okay ladies - The fiancee and I are down to these 2 venues. I want to hear anyone's thoughts (either from going to a wedding there or having your wedding there).

First of all we LOVE the beauty of both places. We are having a day time wedding Feb. 23rd of next year (for about 100 guests). The cost are somewhat the same (probably a 2K difference between Latrobe's and Tea Room). WE LOVE the outside/inside aspect of the Tea Room and it's one of the few spaces all of our guests could fit in one room (in Latrobe's probably over 80 guests some would have to be in another room - if you've seen the space you know what I'm talking about).

However, and here is the BIG however I am concerned about the food at Tea Room. All I hear on here is everyone raving about Latrobe's food and when I got the price yesterday from the tea room the price was for roasted chicken (side note - I despise roasted chicken at weddings, and fiancee and I are excited about authentic New Orleans food)!

Additionally, when we visited the Tea Room the Sales Manager, Bernadette was AMAZING and so impressive. She was super on top of it, etc. But now from home - sending e-mails its like I'm speaking a different language or something. . . .we have a lot of miscommunication and it makes me feel uneasy.

So I don't know what to do. . .right now I feel more comfortable going with latrobe's but it is 2,000 more which could be spent/or not spent.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Re: Latrobe's vs. Tea Room

  • I have been to a wedding @ Latrobe's and it was in my top two choices for my own reception venue (ultimately did not choose it because I wanted everyone in one space and not broken up as you describe).  The food and experience there at the wedding I attended was wonderful.  Like you said, I have heard nothing but great things about their food and I was impressed with the owner when he showed us the space and discussed everything with us.  I don't know anything about the Tea Room, so I can't offer you any first hand info about that.  HTH.

  • I am getting married at Latrobes next month and so far have nothing but rave reviews for their help and advice over the past year! Jessica is absolutely wonderful! Don't know much about the tea room, but I can tell you that if you pick Latrobe's you won't be disappointed!
  • I've never attended a wedding at Latrobes, but I have been to weddings at the Tea Room and I booked another one of Audubon's venues for my own wedding so I thought I'd at least address your concerns about the Tea Room.

The caterers at Audubon are AMAZING.  I had my wedding at one of their venues and everyone raves, raves, raves about how good the food was.  Audubon will do a bunch of tastings. You can bring up to 4 guests to each one and each tasting has a ton of different options you can try.  After going to 3 tastings I had a really good idea of all of the menu options; everything is fantastic.

Bernadette was also my wedding planner.  I think after the wedding I rated Audubon an A+ and rated Bernadette separately as a B/B+ for exactly the same reason you mentioned; she's a bit tough to reach with email.  But she really, really knows her stuff and will pull it together for the big day.

</div><div>When H and I were deciding on a venue, the Tea Room was one of them. Bernadette was our sales manager and I was very impressed with her upon meeting her. However, the diffiuclty of communicating with her was one of the reasons we chose to go elsewhere.

  • Both the Tea Room and LaTrobe's are beautiful. But are your guest local or mostly from OOT? If OOT, where will they be staying? In the quarter? How will they get to the Tea Room? If you're providing transportation, that $2,000 difference in venue price will be eaten up with transportation costs.
  • I am having mine at the Tea Room. I have attended two food tastings, and they have all been amazing. I am working with Megan, who has done a great job. I have been to several events at the tea room and they have all been great.

I second all of this.  My reception is at the ATR, and I'm working with Megan (fabulous!).  We have also been to two tastings and the food is wonderful.  I've also been to some sit down dinners at ATR and they've likewise been nice.  I don't think you can go wrong.
  • Bernadette is my planner and I am ready to ask for a new one.
