Help! Snow/Ice forcasted for my wedding day!

My February 18 wedding is showing weather forecasts of ice and snow! I don't think it's anything that will impede guests getting there, which is my main priority, but I REALLY wanted to take pictures outside! The whole wedding is downtown and we were going to take pics in front of historic landmarks (i.e. Chicago theatre sign, etc.), but I don't want to totally ruin my dress if it's slushy.

If it IS slushy, any ideas for the following:

Do I bustle before outdoor pictures, or throw caution to the wind and keep my train out until we get to the reception site?
Do I wear my Hunter boots instead of heels while outside (hideous, but perhaps necessary!)?
Do I ditch the outdoor pictures altogether?

Help! I am 10 days away and freaking out! I just knew we were going to have all this unseasonably warm, beautiful weather and then it would be horrible for my wedding day. Argh! Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

  • I think you should have a back up plan for taking pictures inside. That way, if it's really awful you have that option.  I know you're worried, but the weather is so unpredicatable and it could end up being fine.  It was 50 degrees and rainy on my May 14th wedding.  We had planned to take pictures at a nature preserve. We drove there and braved the mist for a couple photos. Some of my favorite pictures were of my H and I under an umbrella.

I will suggest you bring an old sheet or tarp to use getting in and out of the car/limo/whatever. Spread it on the ground so when you step our your dress doesn't get dirty and then you can have someone help hold it up. That's what I did and it worked out fine.
  • I say go with the pictures outside...it's Chicago, it's winter, it's a wedding...the pictures can show that!

A friend of mine was married a few Decembers ago, she had boots that she put on to get through the snow...switched into the shoes for the pictures, then put the boots back on.

I think it might be fun if it's snowy! Have fun with it :)
  • Ditto the pps.  I'd still do them outside and I even think they'd turn out really cute!  If you want your WP to be a part of them; you should warn your BMs so they could bring boots too.  The sheet is a great idea and something I'd consider if I were you.

Also, it's Chicago!  That's 9 days away and the forecast can still certainly change.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I am so appreciative! The tarp is a great idea (defintely doing that!), as is having a potential back-up plan just in case it's REALLY horrible. I'm hoping it will only be a little snowy so we can still at least get a few outdoor shots.

    Thanks again!!!

  • Make a back up plan. Also, don't start freaking out. The weatherman is frequently wrong and I have as good a chance of guessing next Saturday's weather.
