alternative processional songs

Hi all,
The FI and I finally booked the DJ (yay!) and now we're starting to think seriously about our music for the big day. We're having a very fun simple non-traditional wedding and I'm looking for alternate songs to use as a processional song. I'm not into the classical/organ/put-you-to-sleep music. Hoping for a nice romantic somewhat peppy song that people will smile when it starts playing. I've been looking through my ipod and starting to ponder songs (so far my top choice is the Beatles "All  you need is love" - although I'm thinking the beat might not be quite perfect to walk in with).
Anyone have any ideas of what alternative songs to use or have you used?
Thanks!

Re: alternative processional songs

  • I will be using journey's faithfully-instrumental.. So excited and different
  •  I am using Marry Me by Train to walk down :)

I am using Feels Like Home by Chantel Kreviazuk

  • My husband's cousin is an amazing singer and she sang "Marry Me" for me to walk down the aisle to.  It was beautiful!  We walked out to Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are".  Every time I hear either of those songs it makes me think of our wedding.

Also check out I believe it's called Vitamin String Quartet.  They do covers of lots of songs and make them sound totally different because it's all instrumental.  We actually used some of their rock/metal songs during dinner (had to incorporate my H's taste in music too).
  • If you like the Beatles, In My Life might be a good one, too.
  • We are using Don't Worry Baby by the Beach Boys
  • I plan to walk down the aisle to here comes the sun.
  • At my FI's request, I'm walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Hysteric."  This song was on a playlist he made me when we first started dating and has special meaning to us.  Maybe there's a song that has personal meaning that would work well for you.  And I second Carebear's suggestion of checking out the Vitamin String Quartet.  They have covered THOUSANDS of songs, and they all sound beautiful.  If FI hadn't come up with the idea, I would have likely used one of their songs.
  • I am also walking down the aisle to Trains "Marry Me" ! (but i was torn between that one and A Thousand Years by Christina Perri) My bridal party is walking down the aisle to Israel Kamakawio'ole's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".

I think our recessional song will be "Now that we found love" by Heavy D & the Boys & Aaron Hall.

Cake cutting song- "It takes two" by Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock

    so exciting!!!!!!

  • I know we are walking out the Hans Zimmer song from True Romance, well more like the middle of it but I'm having the same issue as you.

counting down to the big day
  • We used "Water into Wine" by The Dave Matthews Band.

Ditto to Vitamin String Quartet, we played a lot of their music during our cocktail hour. They have covers of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc, and are definitely worth checking out!

  • "Imperial March" from The Empire Strikes Back.  Not kidding, it's always been my dream.

Pick something that will make you happy. :)
  • We did Vitamin String Quartet version of All you need is Love and then I walked down the aisle to VSQ version of Stevie Nicks Songbird.  For our recessional we did Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.  We also had a cool playlist of fun songs to play while they were waiting for the wedding to start instead of elevator music, he played, going to the chapel, muppets somebodys getting married, train marry me, bruno mars marry you, all i want is you from juno, etc

  • I am walking down the aisle to "Better Than Love" by Griffin House.  It is a beautiful song and I was able to find an acoustic version on YouTube.
